Quick commerce platform Swiggy Instamart has experienced significant leadership changes with Chief Operating Officer Ankit Jain and Chief Business Officer Hari Kumar resigning from the company. According to reports from ET and Moneycontrol, both executives were part of the leadership team working closely with Amitesh Jha, Chief Executive Officer of Instamart, who previously worked at Flipkart. Both executives had also joined Swiggy after stints at the Walmart-owned e-commerce company, with Kumar having worked at Flipkart for over a decade before joining Instamart in November 2024. Their exits come less than two years into their respective tenures at Instamart, highlighting the rapid pace of leadership changes in the competitive quick commerce sector.
Kumar joined Instamart as CBO in November 2024, while Jain took over as COO in May 2025. As reported by ET and Moneycontrol, both executives have resigned citing personal reasons for their departures. Kumar is yet to finalise his next move, while Jain is likely to join Nykaa as Head of Operations, according to sources familiar with the matter. The leadership changes come as competition intensifies in India's fast-growing quick commerce sector, with both executives having been part of the Walmart-owned e-commerce ecosystem before joining Swiggy Instamart. Swiggy has not responded to queries regarding the exits, though sources indicate the company has already identified a replacement for the CBO position, with a new executive expected to join in the coming weeks.
The departures come amid intensifying competition in India's fast-growing quick commerce sector, with Instamart currently ranking third in terms of order volumes, trailing behind Blinkit and Zepto. However, in terms of net merchandise value (NMV), Instamart and Zepto remain closely matched, frequently competing for the second position. According to ET and Moneycontrol, the space is currently seeing high competition as incumbents continue to engage in discounting to retain customers and market share. Meanwhile, players like Amazon Now and Flipkart Minutes are catching up by expanding aggressively. The broader quick commerce sector has been marked by aggressive moves from key players, with companies such as Blinkit, Zepto, BigBasket, Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now expanding their dark store networks, strengthening operational capabilities and investing heavily to capture market share.
These executive departures follow other significant leadership changes at Swiggy's parent company. In April, Swiggy announced that its cofounder and head of innovation, Nandan Reddy, would step down and vacate his board seat. As reported by ET, the Bengaluru-based company's cofounder and chief growth officer Phani Kishan Addepalli, and chief financial officer Rahul Bothra will join its board of directors. The industry is also witnessing leadership churn across firms as rival platforms make strategic changes, including executive transitions and restructuring, as they prepare for future growth and potential public listings. The sector continues to witness significant expansion with incumbent players strengthening their market positions, while newer entrants accelerate their expansion efforts, making strategic leadership changes crucial for future growth and competitive positioning.
