Rapido has received a licence from the state transport authority under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016, for its cab services in the state. The licence is valid for five years until August 2031, providing greater confidence and continuity to captains and commuters who rely on the platform. According to the company, this licence approval strengthens their position in one of their most important mobility markets, with the Karnataka State Transport Authority issuing the licence to Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited, which operates Rapido. The approval comes at a challenging time for major ride-hailing platforms, as the Karnataka Transport Department has issued show-cause notices to Ola, Uber, Rapido and Namma Yatri over alleged violations of government-prescribed fare rules. The notices followed complaints from taxi and driver associations alleging that aggregators were charging passengers above notified fares, with companies given seven days to respond. Some associations also alleged that platforms were calculating fares using travel time rather than strictly following the government's prescribed fare structure.
Karnataka represents a significant market for Rapido, being the company's home state and one of its most important mobility markets. The platform has established a substantial presence across 21 cities in the state, supporting over 3.14 lakh captains and serving more than 2.04 crore registered customers. Guntupalli said "Karnataka is our home state and one of our most important markets" and added that Rapido aims to operate in full compliance with the state's regulatory framework. Guntupalli added that "clear and predictable regulation benefits the entire mobility ecosystem, commuters, captains, platforms and the government" and that the company's focus would continue to be on safety, service reliability and ensuring earning opportunities for its captains.
