In a significant development for India's textile sector, Amazon India and The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) have signed an MoU during Bharat Tex 2026 in New Delhi to supercharge global e-commerce exports. This partnership aims to accelerate e-commerce exports by enabling thousands of cotton textile manufacturers and exporters to tap into Amazon's vast international marketplaces, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. As reported by Essential Business Intelligence, this collaboration serves as a vital bridge for businesses seeking to transition from traditional trade channels to direct-to-consumer global models, with the textile sector demonstrating resilience as total textile exports rose to ₹3.16 trillion in FY 2025-26. According to Dr. Siddhartha Rajagopal, Executive Director of TEXPROCIL, e-commerce is emerging as a premier growth engine, allowing manufacturers to build global brands while diversifying their customer base.
The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has launched the E-Commerce Council of India (ECCI), bringing together some of the country's largest digital commerce companies under a single platform to strengthen policy advocacy and engagement with the government. According to reports from Essential Business Intelligence, the council's initial members include Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Eternal, Zepto, IndiaMART, MakeMyTrip, Ixigo, Uber, Rapido, Shiprocket, Transport Corporation of India Ltd (TCIL), eBay, Meesho and Tata 1mg, among others, representing a significant consolidation of industry voices. This development comes just weeks after Amazon, Eternal, Meesho, Swiggy and Zepto came together to establish the Digital Commerce Coalition (DCC), another industry grouping focused on sector-specific policy issues. The Digital Commerce Coalition represents a formidable consolidation of market power, encompassing traditional e-commerce logistics, ultra-fast 10-minute grocery delivery, and restaurant aggregators, spanning the entire spectrum of digital retail.
The new body will represent the interests of India's rapidly expanding $120 billion e-commerce sector and work on issues spanning digital trade, logistics, artificial intelligence, consumer trust and improving market access for MSMEs. According to Essential Business Intelligence, the council will function under IAMAI's umbrella, similar to the Payments Council of India and the Fintech Convergence Council, serving as a dedicated forum for dialogue with policymakers and regulators. Under the Amazon-TEXPROCIL framework, the partnership will deliver comprehensive training on cross-border logistics, product compliance, and digital marketing to address critical barriers to entry for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The initiative addresses critical barriers to entry for MSMEs by providing a structured roadmap for exporter readiness, with the coalition emphasizing it will serve as an open platform for stakeholder engagement, rigorous market research, and policy dialogue.
Besides policy engagement, the council will also organise an annual Indian E-Commerce Summit to facilitate discussions among industry leaders, government officials and other stakeholders. As noted by Essential Business Intelligence, the digital commerce ecosystem has grown significantly over the past decade and now requires a unified industry voice to address evolving regulatory and policy issues. The Amazon-TEXPROCIL collaboration specifically enables Indian firms to showcase premium home textiles such as bed, bath, and kitchen linen directly to international shoppers without the need for physical infrastructure abroad, effectively shortening supply chains and enhancing market responsiveness. The Digital Commerce Coalition's primary objective is bridging the gap between massive digital platforms and the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that supply them, addressing logistical hurdles and regulatory mandates as platforms penetrate tier-two and tier-three cities.
TEXPROCIL, established in 1954, is the apex government-designated body under the Ministry of Textiles responsible for promoting Indian cotton textile exports. Representing approximately 2,000 member companies, it provides market intelligence, policy advocacy, and trade facilitation for yarns, fabrics, and home textiles. As per Essential Business Intelligence, the sector demonstrates resilience with total textile exports rising to ₹3.16 trillion in FY 2025-26, making this collaboration particularly timely for strengthening India's global textile competitiveness through e-commerce channels. The council plays a pivotal role in strengthening India's global textile competitiveness through its comprehensive support for the textile industry's digital transformation and international market expansion.
