
Lyte, a robotics and artificial intelligence startup founded by former Apple Face ID team members, has secured approximately $165 million in a new funding round that more than triples the company's valuation to $1.6 billion. According to reports from Business Standard, the latest financing was led by Maverick Silicon, with participation from existing investors including Fidelity Management & Research, which led the previous Series B round, and Atreides Management, Key1 Capital and Ora Global. The startup has now raised a total of $272 million since its 2021 founding. Maverick Silicon Managing Partner Andrew Homan has joined Lyte's board of directors as part of the investment, bringing additional strategic expertise to the company's leadership team. The company was founded in Silicon Valley by former Apple executive CEO Alexander Shpunt, founder of PrimeSense which was acquired by Apple, along with CTO Dr. Arman Hajati and VP Engineering Dr. Yuval Gerson. As reported by Bloomberg, the company does not have offices in Israel, and its Israeli employees all live in the US, with 120 employees, mostly in Silicon Valley engaged in developing chips and implementing systems based on sophisticated optics and algorithms.
As reported by Business Standard, Lyte develops technology to help robots see better and navigate their surroundings more safely, with its flagship product including three sensor types: a camera, inertial motion sensing and a 4D sensor that measures distance and velocity. The company's system collects location and visual data together in one platform to serve what it calls the "visual brain" for robotics. Co-founder Alexander Shpunt stated that the company is "continuously sold out all of our silicon, chips and hardware" and that demand picked up soon after the company came out of stealth mode in January. The company now owns the entire technology stack from the underlying silicon through the spatial data produced by its systems, as reported by Insider Brief. Lyte Chairman Avigdor Willenz emphasized that the company's ownership of its underlying silicon provides greater control over the performance of the entire perception system as the technology moves into larger-scale production. According to Bloomberg, the company aims to develop a chip capable of receiving all the data needed for a robot's operation in one place, allowing it to navigate more easily and see the production line better, emphasizing humanoid robots and industrial robots.
According to Insider Brief, Lyte has entered production and begun shipping to customers in inspection, logistics and manufacturing since emerging from stealth in January 2026. The company's LyteVision platform combines 4D coherent vision, high-resolution imaging and inertial sensing on a synchronized timeline, built on Lyte's own silicon that measures position and motion directly rather than reconstructing those signals entirely in software. This approach addresses latency, calibration drift and other issues that can arise when robotics companies assemble perception systems from separate off-the-shelf components. The platform was named a CES 2026 Best of Innovation product in the robotics category, demonstrating its market recognition. The platform is actively deployed in different forms of robotics, including humanoids and mobile robots, serving customers across inspection, logistics, manufacturing and other applications. As reported by Bloomberg, the company promises to develop a "brain" that can be connected and quickly implemented in a series of humanoid and mobile robots, offering a simple solution where sensors and other components are combined in a single infrastructure.
As reported by Business Standard, Lyte plans to use the financing to scale production of its sensing silicon and LyteVision platform, advance AI and perception capabilities, and expand deployments with robotics companies and industrial customers. The company noted that the AI robotics market is projected to reach $125 billion by 2030, while more than 60% of industrial companies lack experience in implementing robotic automation according to McKinsey & Co. Inc. Lyte also plans to expand its workforce over the next year across silicon, software, optics, manufacturing, operations and go-to-market roles, including senior leadership positions. The company is targeting a fundamental challenge in physical AI: providing autonomous machines with sufficiently accurate and synchronized sensor data before AI models make decisions based on that information. Lyte CEO and co-founder Alexander Shpunt explained that "Physical AI has a sensing problem before it has a model problem. A robot cannot act safely on data that does not faithfully describe the world." According to Bloomberg, Shpunt noted that "The world of physical AI is advancing very quickly, and what we are seeing is that the dominant approach to learning is moving from imitation learning to simulation learning, which is where we fit in."
