IndiGo Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of India's largest airline IndiGo, announced its investment in AI company Sarvam as part of Sarvam's Series B funding round. According to The Times of India, the investment builds on the existing relationship between IndiGo and Sarvam, who have been collaborating to enhance customer experience, empower employees and streamline complex operational workflows across the airline through AI technologies. The partnership creates a technology-enabled, modern and future-ready airline infrastructure that combines IndiGo's core aviation expertise, operational scale and real-world use cases with Sarvam's capabilities across AI models, voice and agentic systems. As per The Times of India, the investment aims to accelerate AI-driven advancements and efficiency enhancements, with Sarvam providing bespoke solutions that will widen the adoption of successful AI applications throughout IndiGo's vast operational network.
As reported by The Times of India, the collaboration combines IndiGo's domain depth and scale with Sarvam's AI capabilities to develop systems that are useful in production and build a stronger template for enterprise AI in India. Sarvam builds across training and inference infrastructure, frontier models and enterprise AI products, with technology spanning text, speech, vision and documents designed for secure deployment across complex, high-volume environments. The partnership creates a long-term platform for accelerating AI-led innovation and operational excellence at IndiGo, with the ability to expand successful use cases across IndiGo's network. Sarvam's Co-founder Pratyush Kumar noted that aviation is a powerful setting for enterprise AI because it combines millions of customer interactions with complex, time-sensitive operations, and that IndiGo's domain expertise and scale would help identify areas where AI can deliver real-world value. According to The Times of India, both companies will continue to develop and evaluate applications across customer experience, employee productivity and airline operations, with successful use cases potentially being expanded across IndiGo's network.
According to The Times of India, Sarvam is described as the country's full-stack sovereign AI company, and IndiGo Ventures will invest as part of Sarvam's Series B funding round. The investment positions IndiGo to access cutting-edge AI capabilities built in India and tailored to market needs. As per the press release, in 2024, IndiGo Ventures received SEBI approval to establish an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) with a corpus of ₹600 crore. The fund is committed to fostering innovation not just through capital, but also by leveraging IndiGo's deep technical expertise and extensive network. However, financial details of the current investment were not disclosed. Sarvam was founded in July 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, who previously worked at Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani-backed AI4Bharat. The company develops a full-stack offering for Generative AI, ranging from research-led innovations in training custom AI models to an enterprise-grade platform for authoring and deployment. Sarvam develops AI models and products for text, speech, images and documents, along with agentic AI systems that can perform tasks and take actions with limited human intervention.
The Sarvam investment is part of a broader effort by IndiGo Ventures to invest in technologies and businesses that could have applications across the aviation ecosystem. According to Moneycontrol, Sarvam subsequently announced the first close of its Series B round in June, raising $234 million at a $1.5 billion valuation, with HCLTech as the lead strategic investor. In August, the startup raised another $74 million from Nvidia, Activate, Glade Brook Capital and Gaja Capital, completing the $300 million round. IndiGo Ventures is listed among the investors in the latest tranche. Earlier this year, IndiGo Ventures invested ₹10 crore in Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) startup developing aircraft for air-taxi applications. This represents a significant jump from Sarvam's $41 million Series A in December 2023, which was led by Lightspeed with participation from Peak XV Partners and Khosla Ventures.
IndiGo's Chief Digital and Information Officer Neetan Chopra emphasized that artificial intelligence is fast becoming a foundational capability for the aviation industry, reshaping customer experience, workforce productivity and operational decision-making. According to The Times of India, Chopra stated: "Our partnership with Sarvam gives IndiGo access to cutting-edge AI capabilities, built in India, and tailored to the needs of the market. By combining these technologies with our operational expertise and scale, we can accelerate innovation while maximising value for our customers, employees, and other stakeholders." Kumar stated that aviation involves a high volume of customer interactions, time-sensitive operations and a large, distributed workforce, making it a significant area for enterprise AI applications. The companies are currently working on AI applications for customer service, employee productivity and airline operations, with successful use cases set to be scaled up across IndiGo's network. As per The Times of India, through the Series B investment, IndiGo Ventures will deepen its engagement with Sarvam as both sides explore further enterprise applications of AI. This marks IndiGo Ventures's fourth publicly disclosed investment, following its first investment in aerospace manufacturing company JEH Aerospace in July 2025, participation in travel accessories company Escape Plan's $25 million Series A in January 2026, and the ₹10 crore investment in Sarla Aviation the same month.
