Fresh produce and grocery platform Handpickd is planning aggressive geographic expansion into Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune after successfully scaling its zero-inventory model across NCR and Bengaluru. According to reports from Business Standard, the company currently operates in Gurugram, Noida, and Bengaluru, serving more than 100,000 customers. CEO Goel stated that geographic expansion is a top focus, with these markets identified as key areas with high demand for clean, additive-free produce and freshly milled kitchen staples. The expansion comes as India's fresh food retail, grocery delivery, quick commerce, food technology, clean-label food, and organic food segments continue to witness rising consumer demand for transparency, quality, and minimally processed products.
The company is aiming to achieve a three-fold to five-fold year-on-year growth trajectory on the back of its expansion drive, as reported by Business Standard. Handpickd's latest funding round was a $15 million Series A led by Bertelsmann India Investments, with participation from Titan Capital Winners Fund and existing investors. The company's earlier backers include Blume Ventures, Genesia Ventures, BEENEXT, Stargazer Ventures, Eximius Ventures, Infinyte Club Angel Fund and Sunrise Sunset Family Trust. The capital will be deployed towards supply-chain technology, geographic expansion and hiring as the company scales its model.
Unlike quick commerce platforms such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart, which rely on dark stores to hold inventory close to consumers, Handpickd follows a zero-stock, harvest-to-order model, according to Business Standard. The platform aggregates orders overnight and sources produce directly from farms or prepares to order. Goel explained that the platform does not operate traditional dark stores or warehouses, instead operating automated cross-docking sorting nodes, which it calls 'butlers', supported by a central feeder. These micro-hubs receive farm produce and freshly milled products overnight, conduct quality checks and custom-pack orders before dispatching to customers. The approach focuses on local sourcing and faster delivery to maintain freshness and product quality.
According to recent reports, Handpickd has expanded its product portfolio beyond fresh fruits and vegetables, entering the daily kitchen staples category with freshly prepared and additive-free food products. The company is strengthening its supply chain to offer consumers a wider range of fresh essentials, including made-to-order atta (flour), freshly pounded spices, cold-pressed oils, farm dairy products, small-batch spreads, fresh flowers, and ready-to-cook items. Handpickd expects categories such as freshly milled flour and hand-pounded spices to play a significant role in its growth strategy over the coming year as demand for fresh, minimally processed food products continues to increase. The platform records an average monthly wallet capture of more than ₹3,000 and maintains customer retention in the 'higher double digits' as a percentage of active monthly customers.
