Post Office Savings Account (POSA) customers with internet banking access can now request personalised cheque books online, according to an official order from the Department of Posts dated July 18, 2026. As reported by The Economic Times, the facility became operational from this date, allowing customers to submit requests through Post Office internet banking without visiting physical post offices. This digital service represents a significant expansion of the banking experience for post office account holders.
The new online facility enables POSA customers to have their names preprinted on cheque leaves, with the cheque book delivered free of cost to the registered address of the primary account holder. According to the Department of Posts order, the service includes no charges for up to 10 cheque leaves per calendar year. After the initial 10 leaves, customers will be charged ₹2 per cheque leaf and the amount will be debited from their selected savings account at the time of request placement.
The online application process involves a step-by-step procedure through internet banking. As reported by The Economic Times, customers must first select the 'Personalised Cheque Book' option from the internet banking menu, then enter their account details and account holder information. The system displays a confirmation page showing the account holder's name, delivery address, account type, joint account holder details (if applicable), request date, and registered mobile number. Users must enter their transaction password to authenticate and confirm the request.
The Department of Posts introduced the personalised cheque book facility for savings accounts through an order dated May 8, 2026. According to the official announcement, this latest development allows customers to place personalised cheque book requests through e-Banking without visiting post office counters. The service represents a significant improvement in convenience for post office account holders who previously had to visit physical branches to request these customised banking materials.
