Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the release of over ₹5,160 crore under the fifth instalment of the Subhadra Yojana on August 28, 2026. According to reports from Kanak News, the funds were transferred directly to the bank accounts of 1,03,26,162 beneficiaries during the disbursement event. Of the total beneficiaries, 2,21,054 women received the scheme's financial assistance for the first time, with eligible beneficiaries who had been left out of previous disbursements receiving all five instalments together. Women who had not received any Subhadra instalment until now, along with newly eligible beneficiaries, received ₹25,000 covering all five instalments in a single transfer.
The Subhadra Yojana provides eligible women with ₹10,000 per year, paid in two equal instalments of ₹5,000 each. As reported by LiveMint, one instalment is released on Raksha Bandhan, while the other is disbursed on International Women's Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme in Odisha on September 17, 2024, following the BJP's formation of the state government. Under the scheme, each eligible woman is entitled to receive a total of ₹50,000 over five years.
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday to brief him on the progress and success of various women-focused welfare initiatives. As reported by LiveMint, Parida, who also heads the state's Women and Child Development Department, informed PM Modi about measures being undertaken to ensure funds reach all eligible beneficiaries smoothly and on time. The meeting took place ahead of the disbursement of the fifth instalment under the Subhadra scheme. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended a mega gathering at Lathipada in Nayagarh district, where the fifth instalment was formally disbursed. Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and several other senior BJP leaders attended the programme.
The Odisha government has allocated ₹10,145 crore for the Subhadra Yojana in the 2026-27 Budget, demonstrating continued commitment to the scheme's expansion and sustainability. The government aims to promote women's empowerment, self-reliance and financial inclusion through the programme, with the scheme's success reflected in the growing number of beneficiaries and consistent disbursement timelines.
As part of security arrangements for the event, 12 platoons of police personnel were deployed for the fifth instalment disbursement. Beneficiaries can check their payment status through the official Subhadra Odisha Portal by selecting Beneficiary Status or Track Application Status. According to the official guidelines, users must provide their registered mobile number, Aadhaar number or application ID, enter the OTP received on their registered mobile number, and submit details to view application status, e-KYC progress and instalment payment status. Since payments are transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), beneficiaries can also verify their Aadhaar-linked bank account statements or transaction alerts to confirm crediting.
