The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) offers a FASTag Annual Pass priced at ₹3,075 that covers up to 200 toll crossings at participating national highway and expressway toll plazas. According to reports from Mint, the pass remains valid for one year from activation or until crossings are used, whichever comes first. The scheme is available exclusively for eligible private cars, jeeps and vans, with commercial vehicles, taxis and trucks excluded from the program. Starting April 1, 2026, the pass price increased from ₹3,000 to ₹3,075, reflecting the enhanced functionality and digital integration.
The pass operates at more than 1,150 designated highway and expressway fee plazas across the country, including participating toll plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. As reported by Mint, the system works with existing FASTag tags and connects to the FASTag linked with your vehicle registration number. At eligible plazas, the system recognizes the active pass and raises the barrier, reducing the remaining trip balance instead of deducting toll amounts. The pass is non-transferable and linked to one specific vehicle registration number and FASTag.
Trip counting varies by toll system implementation. At point-based plazas, each crossing counts as one trip, meaning a return journey through the same plaza requires two crossings. Under closed tolling, one entry and exit together count as a single trip. According to Mint, once 200 trips are used, normal FASTag deductions resume automatically, or when the pass reaches the end of its validity period. The pass cannot be used at state highways and independent municipal toll roads, where charges continue from regular FASTag balances. Starting April 10, 2026, NHAI eliminated dedicated cash lanes at toll plazas, making every lane a FASTag lane. Vehicles without functioning FASTag must now pay 1.25 times the standard toll fee, with a standard ₹80 toll becoming ₹100 without FASTag.
Applications can be submitted through the official Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI/Rajmargyatra web portal. As reported by Mint, the process begins with mobile number login and OTP verification, followed by vehicle registration number entry to check eligibility. The system verifies vehicle details against the VAHAN database, then requires payment of ₹3,075 via UPI, net banking, or debit/credit cards. The pass is activated automatically within two hours of processing, with existing FASTag wallet balances not accepted for payment. Starting February 2026, the RBI and NHAI streamlined KYC processes through the VAHAN Integration Project, allowing instant FASTag activation by verifying vehicle details directly from the government database without repeated document uploads.
The pass offers potential savings for frequent highway users, with ₹3,075 compared to separate toll payments or monthly passes. According to Mint, travelers should evaluate their toll usage patterns and compare expected savings with the pass cost. Regular journeys through participating national highway plazas could make the pass useful, while trips involving mainly state highways or municipal toll roads will incur separate charges. With the current average toll fees per trip incurring a fee of roughly ₹70 to ₹80, the FASTag annual pass provides an effective toll per trip of ₹15 to ₹20. The pass may be particularly valuable for road trips across multiple states, though occasional travelers may see limited savings. Regular commuters on specific routes within 60 km radius, vehicle owners making 3+ toll plaza crossings per week, and long-distance business travelers with fixed routes are ideal candidates for this pass.
