Rich Dad Poor Dad author Robert Kiyosaki has issued a stark warning about the financial future of US Baby Boomers, arguing that millions could face severe financial stress as they approach or enter retirement. In his latest post on X platform dated September 28, 2026, Kiyosaki questioned whether the Baby Boomer generation had been disadvantaged by the shift towards defined-contribution retirement plans and growing dependence on financial markets. He pointed to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974 and the subsequent expansion of 401(k)-style retirement saving, claiming that Baby Boomers were introduced to 401(k)s without sufficient financial education. 'Did the Baby Boomers get F'D?' Kiyosaki wrote, highlighting his concerns about the generation's financial preparedness for retirement.
Kiyosaki argued that in 1974, the Boomer's were the first generation to receive ERISA aka the '401k,' without any financial education. He claimed that becoming a financial planner was relatively easy at the time, saying it took only 7 weeks to get a financial planner's license back then. However, the shift toward defined-contribution retirement plans does not mean ERISA itself created 401(k) plans - ERISA was enacted in 1974 to establish protections and standards for private-sector employee benefit plans, while the 401(k) provision was added to the tax code through the Revenue Act of 1978. Kiyosaki also criticized the traditional investment approach, saying that financial planners promoted the '60/40' strategy of holding 60% stocks and 40% bonds. In his latest post, he noted that 'Anytime the government passes an act…the words mean the opposite. For Example “Social Security?”'
Fidelity's 2026 data shows an average 401(k) balance of ₹260,300 for Baby Boomers, while the average IRA balance stood at ₹286,700 as of March 31, 2026. According to ET Now, Kiyosaki's biggest concern is the potential impact of a prolonged downturn on retirees who have limited time to recover from large investment losses. He wrote that 'Millions of Boomers may be homeless or moving in with kids and grandkids' in today's economic environment, emphasizing the vulnerability of this generation to market volatility. In his latest post, he warned that 'When bonds go down… the stock market, like the S&P 500 will crash, which will leave millions of boomers out of time and out of money to recover'.
Kiyosaki has repeatedly warned about a potential global stock and bond market crash, claiming what he called the 'BIGGEST CRASH IN HISTORY' had already started in Europe and Japan and was spreading globally. As reported by ET Now, he noted that 'Today, in 2026….Central Banks throughout the world are dumping US Bonds to buy gold….by the tons'. His warnings about traditional retirement savings have led him to repeatedly end his posts with recommendations to 'Buy gold, silver, and Bitcoin' for years, reflecting his belief that conventional investment strategies are no longer sufficient in the current economic environment. In his latest post, he referenced his 'predictions, starting with the crash of Lehmann Brothers on CNN, on Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room show in 2008, has been on time and target'.
According to ET Now, Kiyosaki said his own holdings include rental apartments and oil wells in the US, while stressing that he is not a financial planner and does not earn money from his investment recommendations. 'I am not a financial planner nor do I make money from my recommendations,' he wrote, adding that 'Our mission has been to create products so people could teach people….what our schools and Wall Street will not teach you.' He concluded his warning by urging people to improve their financial knowledge and prepare for what he believes could be difficult economic conditions, emphasizing that 'Rough times ahead for the unprepared and great times for those that are'.
