Beneficiaries of the Annapurna Bhandar scheme are experiencing significant delays in receiving their August 2026 payment, despite the scheme's promise to deliver ₹3,000 monthly financial assistance by the first week of August. According to Mint reports, many bank accounts have yet to receive the funds even on August 3, marking a departure from the typical phased rollout pattern. The scheme offers a substantial increase from the previous Lakshmi Bhandar scheme, which provided ₹1,200 per month for SC/ST women and ₹1,000 for other categories.
Several technical and administrative issues are causing payment delays for Annapurna Bhandar beneficiaries. As reported by Mint, the most common causes include inactive Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) accounts, unlinked Aadhaar cards, data mismatches between application forms and bank details, pending verification processes, and account confusion where multiple accounts are linked to the same Aadhaar number. The scheme also excludes permanent government employees, government pensioners, and income taxpayers from beneficiary status, while administrative factors such as phased rollout processes may be causing temporary delays.
Beneficiaries can check their payment status through the state's Social Security Portal by selecting 'Track Applicant Status' using their Application ID, Aadhaar number, or registered mobile number. According to Mint, the portal provides specific status options including 'Approved' (indicating successful application with payment pending), 'Rejected' (meaning ineligibility requiring appeal to BDO office), 'Pending at BDO Office' (requiring 15-30 days for review completion), 'Bank Account Invalid' (suggesting mismatched account details), and 'Payment Pending' (indicating funds not yet released). For those experiencing persistent delays, visiting the local administrative office to lodge a formal complaint and verify application status is recommended.
The Annapurna Yojana replaces the TMC government's Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, as reported by Mint. The new scheme is one of the key poll promises of the BJP in this year's West Bengal assembly elections. The scheme targets women from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe households, with beneficiaries receiving a maximum of ₹1,500 per month under the previous scheme. The new program offers ₹3,000 monthly to all eligible beneficiaries, representing a significant enhancement in financial support for vulnerable communities.
