According to reports from Mint, ChatGPT has curated three different SIP plans for a Bengaluru-based Development Engineer targeting a ₹1 crore corpus in 15 years. The AI platform assumes equity mutual funds in India have historically delivered around 10-12% annual returns over long periods. The first approach suggests a Flat SIP of ₹27,000-30,000 monthly, requiring a total investment of ₹48-54 lakh over 15 years. The second plan involves a Step-up SIP starting at ₹15,000-18,000 monthly with 10-15% annual increases, requiring ₹40-45 lakh total investment.
As reported by Mint, ChatGPT recommends investing the majority of funds in equity mutual funds, including low-cost index funds tracking Nifty 50 and flexi-cap funds. The platform suggests gradually moving 10-20% of the portfolio into safer debt funds during the final 5-7 years to protect gains from market volatility. The AI emphasizes consistency over market timing, recommending focus on increasing SIP amounts annually with income hikes rather than chasing returns. It advises staying invested during market downturns, noting that short-term crashes can be beneficial for accumulating more units at lower prices.
According to Mint, ChatGPT points out that ₹1 crore may not be sufficient in real terms due to inflation, with the future value potentially equivalent to only ₹40-45 lakh today. The platform suggests aiming for a more realistic target of ₹2-2.5 crore through either flat SIPs of ₹55,000-60,000 monthly or step-up strategies starting at ₹20,000 with 12-15% annual increases. This inflation-adjusted approach requires contributions of ₹1 lakh+ per month in later years, making it more demanding but more meaningful for long-term wealth creation.
As reported by Mint, the Flat SIP approach can be financially draining early in careers, especially in high-cost cities like Bengaluru, with the biggest con being fixed contributions regardless of income growth. The Step-up SIP is considered more practical, offering reduced financial pressure in early years while aligning with career progression. The Bonus SIP strategy requires higher discipline but provides better long-term real returns, though it demands more demanding contributions throughout the investment period.
