
The government of India has launched multiple schemes to support girls in India, aiming to improve access to education and skill development. These schemes are part of the government's initiative to promote gender equality and support girl children across different states and income levels. According to reports, these schemes provide valuable support for girls' bright future through various financial and educational benefits.
The Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme is a popular government scheme launched in 2015 as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. As reported, this scheme is available for every girl child in India. Parents can open an SSY account in any post office or authorised bank, with the account maturing when the girl child reaches 21 years or gets married after 18 years. The scheme requires a minimum deposit of ₹250 and allows a maximum deposit of ₹1.5 lakh in one account. The eligibility criteria include girls aged less than 10 years.
Several state governments offer targeted schemes for girl children. The Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana was launched after discontinuing the Delhi Ladli Scheme on March 31, 2026. According to reports, this scheme requires girls to be Delhi residents with annual family income less than ₹1.20 lakh and family residency in Delhi for three years. The Mukhyamantri Kanya Suraksha Yojana (MKSY) by Bihar government provides ₹2,000 fixed deposit for each eligible girl child born on or after November 22, 2007, with benefits limited to two girls per family from BPL families.
The CBSE Udaan Scheme focuses on increasing girl students' participation in engineering education. As reported, eligible students must be resident Indian citizens studying in Class XI or XII with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), requiring 70% overall in Class X and 80% marks in Science and Mathematics. The scheme provides free coaching for engineering entrance exams, online and offline study materials, academic guidance, video lectures, and performance tracking. The Ladli Lakshmi Yojana in Madhya Pradesh provides an assurance certificate of ₹1,43,000 and ₹30,000 deposit over five years for girls born on or after January 1, 2006.
