Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund has announced changes in the fund management responsibilities of several schemes with effect from July 3, 2026. According to reports from Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, the changes affect multiple equity and debt schemes under the fund house's management. The timing of these changes comes as investors increasingly focus on portfolio overlap - the extent to which two or more mutual funds hold the same underlying stocks or securities - which can undermine diversification strategies despite holding multiple schemes.
The Motilal Oswal ELSS Tax Saver Fund will see changes in its fund management team. As reported by Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, the existing fund managers include Ankit Agarwal (Equity), Atul Mehra (Equity), Ajay Khandelwal (Equity) and Rakesh Shetty (Debt). The new fund management team will comprise Varun Sharma (Equity), Ankit Agarwal (Equity), Atul Mehra (Equity), Ajay Khandelwal (Equity) and Rakesh Shetty (Debt). These changes occur as investors must review portfolio disclosures monthly to identify overlap, comparing the top 10-15 stocks across funds to ensure genuine diversification.
The Motilal Oswal Large and Midcap Fund will also undergo similar changes in its fund management structure. According to Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, the existing team includes Ankit Agarwal (Equity), Atul Mehra (Equity), Ajay Khandelwal (Equity) and Rakesh Shetty (Debt). The new management team will consist of Varun Sharma (Equity), Ankit Agarwal (Equity), Atul Mehra (Equity), Ajay Khandelwal (Equity) and Rakesh Shetty (Debt). The fund house emphasizes that some overlap is natural within the same fund category, but excessive overlap across most of the portfolio can leave investors with limited real diversification despite holding multiple schemes.
The Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund will see changes in its equity fund management team. As reported by Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, the existing fund managers include Bhalchandra Shinde, Ajay Khandelwal (Equity) and Rakesh Shetty (Debt). The new fund management team will comprise Varun Sharma (Equity), Bhalchandra Shinde, Ajay Khandelwal (Equity) and Rakesh Shetty (Debt). Investors must also check sector allocation beyond individual stock names, as heavy concentration in the same sector - such as multiple funds being overweight on banking and financial services - can reduce diversification benefits.
