Star Health & Allied Insurance Company Ltd has demonstrated a positive technical setup for potential recovery, according to The Economic Times. The stock bounced back after testing its 50-day moving average on daily charts, suggesting bulls are attempting a comeback. The recovery pattern indicates improved trend strength as the stock holds above the Ichimoku cloud formation.
India's largest standalone retail health insurer is experiencing remarkable growth in its Home Health Care (HHC) segment, which recorded 600% year-on-year growth in customers during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, the segment delivered close to 50,000 consultations in Q1 FY27, with the service now available across 300 cities compared to less than 200 cities just a year ago. Chief Operating Officer Amitabh Jain highlighted the program's success as a completely cashless arrangement, with the company actively marketing this facility through its distribution network to reach end customers.
The stock hit a high of ₹624 on July 30, 2026, but failed to maintain the momentum. As reported by The Economic Times, it closed at ₹583 on August 12, 2026, representing a decline from its peak. Short-term traders are being advised to consider buying the stock for a target above ₹600 levels within the next 2-3 weeks, based on current technical indicators.
Star Health's retail market share was 29% in Q1 FY27 compared to 31% in Q1 FY26, partly impacted by share of long-term policies and consequent reporting implications. More than 95% of its premium income currently comes from retail insurance, with retail health insurance premium growing around 19% year-on-year in the first quarter. The company maintains a conscious strategy to avoid large corporate group insurance segments, focusing instead on the SME segment where it finds viability. On the distribution front, agents and digital channels are the two biggest sources of fresh customer acquisitions, with around 90% of premium income coming from the agency channel.
Looking ahead, Star Health aims to expand its Home Health Care services further into tier-2 and tier-3 cities while strengthening digital capabilities and enhancing healthcare partnerships. The company plans to focus on bringing quality care closer to customers through strategic partnerships. According to Jain, further expansion would depend on the availability of specialist vendors who provide home healthcare services including nurses, medical equipment, and medicines.
