Shares of Pine Labs rose nearly 4% in intraday trade on August 27 after Investec initiated coverage with a 'Buy' rating and a price target of ₹200 per share. According to Moneycontrol, the stock climbed as much as 3.7% during the session before paring gains to trade around ₹169.4, up 1.5%. The target price implies an upside of nearly 20% from the stock's previous close, with the brokerage describing Pine Labs as a leading merchant-focused fintech platform with significant market presence across multiple segments. The company has built value beyond simple payment acceptance and positioned itself as more than just a swipe-machine provider.
As reported by Investec, Pine Labs operates with more than 20 lakh point-of-sale (POS) terminals, giving it a 17% market share in the broader merchant segment. The company holds a dominant position in the enterprise merchant segment with a market share of more than 60%. Beyond its core payments business, Investec highlighted Pine Labs' presence in affordability solutions, including POS financing, as an important value-added offering. The company processes around 85% of offline white-goods buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) transactions, working with more than 450 brands and over 40 financial institutions. Pine Labs also maintains an estimated 90% market share in gift-card processing, another business that adds to its position across the merchant commerce ecosystem.
The positive brokerage call follows a strong start to FY27, with Pine Labs reporting impressive financial results for the June quarter. According to Moneycontrol, the company reported a 20% year-on-year rise in revenue to ₹737 crore in Q1 FY27, while net profit quadrupled to ₹20 crore from ₹5 crore a year earlier. Profit before tax stood at ₹38 crore compared with a loss of ₹5 crore in the year-ago period. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter came in at ₹126 crore, translating into a margin of 17.1%. The company's platform processed gross transaction value of around ₹4.22 lakh crore during the quarter, demonstrating significant operational scale.
According to Investec's analysis, increasing scale and rising contribution from higher-margin segments have driven the company's EBITDA margin from virtually nil in FY23 to 13% in FY26, while PAT margin reached 4% in FY26. The brokerage expects Pine Labs to deliver 20% revenue CAGR between FY26 and FY29, while PAT margin is expected to improve to 14% by FY29. Investec noted that a potential merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI transactions could act as a meaningful profitability booster for Pine Labs, given the company's scale in the payments space. Despite Thursday's gains, Pine Labs shares remain down 27.9% so far in 2026, compared with a 7.5% decline in the Nifty 50.
