ICICI Securities has upgraded its recommendation for KFin Technologies to a buy rating with a target price of ₹1,050 in its latest research report. According to the brokerage's analysis, the upgrade is based on the company's continued business growth potential driven by its core Indian mutual fund RTA operations and expected traction in international business through acquisitions and partnerships. The target price represents a valuation based on a 35x multiple on FY28E EPS of ₹30, down from the earlier target of ₹1,180. The stock currently trades at ₹902.35, suggesting potential upside from current levels. As per The Economic Times, the lower multiple factors in full consolidation of Ascent's financials, even though KFin currently owns only 51% and plans to own about 67% by FY28E.
As reported by ICICI Securities, KFin Technologies has achieved continued client wins through new product suites across fund accounting, transfer agency, and wealth management segments. The company's diversification strategy includes strong outlook in corporate issuer business and high growth potential in existing international and AIF business. Key growth levers include partnership with Blackrock's Aladdin provider network and the recent acquisition of Ascent. Around 29% of revenue now comes from non-mutual fund areas, compared to CAMS' 13%, with diverse income sources including national pension scheme record-keeping, insurance and fintech services, corporate registry, IPO support, alternative investment funds (AIFs), and international fund administration.
According to the brokerage report, earnings may moderate due to periodic cuts in yields following notable growth in client AUMs, as seen in FY25, and cost inflation being managed through automation and efficiency measures. Despite these pressures, the company maintains strong financial health with ROE around 25% and ROCE over 32%, while minimal debt supports its growth trajectory. ICICI Securities expects healthy outcomes from the company's strategic initiatives in diversification and continuous technology investment to optimize growth and profitability.
The stock trades at a P/E ratio of 44-46x, significantly above the Indian Capital Markets average of 22.8x and competitor CAMS at about 39x. This premium stems from KFin's tech-driven diversification into international markets, AIFs, and corporate registry services, including acquisitions. While KFin's revenue grew by 30.18% last year with a higher CAGR of 13.2% than CAMS' 10.2%, its profit margins are 26.6%, slightly lower than CAMS' 30.6%, mainly due to expansion costs. The recommendation reflects KFin's positioning in the financial technology sector, with the company benefiting from its core Indian mutual fund operations and expanding international presence, offering attractive value at current levels given the company's growth trajectory and strategic positioning.
Despite valuation concerns, most analysts maintain a positive outlook on KFin Tech with a 'Buy' rating and an average 12-month price target of ₹1,275 from two analysts. This positive view is supported by expectations of strong growth in India's mutual fund industry, driven by economic expansion, digitalization, and greater financial literacy. The company's success in integrating acquisitions and using technology for cost management will be key to achieving long-term profitability and supporting its high valuation. The diversification strategy and technology focus help justify the premium valuation over pure-play RTAs like CAMS, though execution risks remain in balancing revenue growth from scale with maintaining profit margins.
