The Tamil Nadu government secured 97 fresh memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for a total commitment of ₹67,542 crore during the TVK government's first Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026. According to latest reports, these agreements were signed in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Industries Minister S Keerthana on Thursday at the ITC Grand Chola Hotel in Chennai. The MoUs were exchanged at the inaugural investors conclave, marking a significant investment milestone since the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam formed the government in May. Notably, 56 of these projects are greenfield investments, demonstrating the state's focus on attracting new industrial facilities.
The investment commitments are strategically distributed across key sectors where Tamil Nadu has established ecosystems. Data centres lead with ₹26,417 crore in commitments, followed by automotive sector at ₹17,073 crore, renewables at ₹15,787 crore, and engineering at ₹9,525 crore. Foreign direct investment commitments stand at ₹22,268 crore from countries including Australia, Germany, Japan, France, Singapore and South Korea. The projects are spread across more than 20 districts and are expected to create over one lakh jobs across various sectors including automotive, renewables, life science, electronics, R&D and data centre sectors.
Several marquee companies signed significant MoUs during the conclave. Lighthouse Green Data Centre committed ₹10,000 crore to set up a hyperscale data centre in Thoothukudi, marking the single largest investment at the event. Super Micro Computer signed an MoU for its first India facility with ₹477 crore investment in Chennai for AI server manufacturing. Daimler will invest ₹4,000 crore in BharatBenz product development and manufacturing, while JK Tyre committed ₹5,143 crore for tyre manufacturing in Kanchipuram. Ultraviolette Automotive signed an MoU for ₹779 crore to set up an electric motorcycle plant in Krishnagiri, and Lucas TVS committed ₹2,500 crore for EV and automotive component facilities. Among new India entrants, Germany's Bitzer will make its India debut in Kanchipuram with ₹300 crore investment in HVAC compressors, and Taiwan's Bao Yan India Shoe will set up its first India plant in Vellore with ₹240 crore, creating 3,000 jobs for international brands Geox and L.L. Bean.
The space sector emerged as a major success story with two leading private space companies securing significant investments. Agnikul Cosmos will invest ₹400 crore and create 1,500 jobs by setting up assembly and integration operations for its reusable, liquid-propelled launch vehicles in Thoothukudi. Skyroot Aerospace will invest ₹250 crore and create 500 jobs, establishing storage, assembly, integration and testing facilities in the same district. Both companies, founded within the last decade by former ISRO engineers, are widely regarded as front-runners of India's private space sector and have already conducted successful sub-orbital test launches. Their decision to anchor operations in Thoothukudi builds on the district's growing maritime and industrial ecosystem.
Tamil Nadu's latest investment pipeline includes a strong set of projects across the semiconductor and advanced electronics ecosystem, covering semiconductor equipment, bonding materials, reliability testing, chip design and semiconductor manufacturing support. Kinesis Semiconductor Wire Solutions is investing ₹193 crore in Chennai to establish what the project note describes as 'India's first localised semiconductor bonding-wire manufacturing facility'. Bigpro Solutions is investing ₹443 crore in Krishnagiri for an independent MIL-STD-883-compliant reliability and failure-testing laboratory, while Richport Technology is investing ₹130 crore in precision cleaning and surface-treatment capabilities for semiconductor equipment makers. The pipeline also includes Avalon Technologies' ₹1,000-crore project for semiconductor equipment and advanced electronics manufacturing, and PTW Semiconductor's ₹250-crore project for semiconductor equipment build, assembly and new product development, further strengthening Tamil Nadu's emerging semiconductor manufacturing and supply-chain ecosystem.
The Vetri conclave witnessed significant institutional agreements aimed at strengthening Tamil Nadu's trade, investment, technology, skilling and global economic partnerships. Key engagements include partnerships with Invest Kazakh (Kazakhstan) and INZBC (New Zealand) to promote trade, bilateral investments and sister-city cooperation. Invest Kazakh is expected to lead a 100-member delegation to Tamil Nadu in September 2026, while a Christchurch Mayor-led delegation is planned for October. Major initiatives include the Bosch-TIDCO Centre of Excellence in Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies, expected to benefit over 10,000 students, professionals, startups and MSMEs annually, and a ₹75 crore semiconductor skilling initiative by WOWsemi Foundation, targeting training for over 75,000 people over five years. The conclave also marks a new chapter in Tamil Nadu-Russia economic cooperation through an MoU with Sberbank, focused on skilling and technology transfer, reaffirming Tamil Nadu's commitment to building a globally connected, technology-driven and investment-ready economy.
