AI cloud-computing provider CoreWeave Inc. has announced its first data centers in India through a strategic partnership with AdaniGroup. According to reports from Bloomberg, the company will utilize 240 megawatts of capacity at AdaniConneX Pvt.'s Taloja campus in Navi Mumbai, with an option to double that amount to 480 MW. The deal was officially announced on October 7, 2026, marking CoreWeave's first data center project in India. AdaniConneX is a joint venture between Adani Group and EdgeConneX, positioning the partnership as a significant milestone in India's growing AI infrastructure landscape. As reported by Bloomberg, CoreWeave is also setting up an office in India as part of this expansion and plans to hire locally, creating an on-the-ground presence to collaborate with customers and partners throughout India's vibrant AI ecosystem.
The investment represents a multiple billions of dollars commitment over the lifetime of the project, with the first data centers expected to come online in mid-2028. As reported by Bloomberg, the arrangement is a multi-year partnership projected to involve investments worth several billion dollars, though the parties have not broken down who is spending what. The Taloja campus sits in Navi Mumbai, the planned satellite city across the harbor from Mumbai, with AdaniConneX aiming to develop a total of 3 GW of data center capacity in India by 2030. The company, based in Livingston, New Jersey, has been actively expanding geographically to boost available capacity and better serve global customers, with this announcement following its first Asian projects in Indonesia announced in August. CoreWeave currently has approximately 4.2 gigawatts worth of contracted power capacity, roughly equivalent to four nuclear reactors, with CEO Mike Intrator indicating last month that the company is "largely sold out" of capacity due to high demand.
According to Bloomberg, CoreWeave will equip the Indian data centers with Nvidia Corp.'s latest Vera Rubin Platform for AI applications including training models, handling reasoning, and powering AI agents. The company's facilities will be used for AI-related tasks, including training and running models, handling reasoning and powering AI agents. Energy availability, measured in megawatts or gigawatts, is a key benchmark for data center capacity, as securing sufficient power is typically one of the biggest challenges in building such facilities. The Taloja facilities are being designed specifically for high-density AI infrastructure, including direct liquid cooling for GPU data halls and a non-evaporative chilled water system. CoreWeave consistently delivers industry-leading performance, demonstrated by record-breaking MLPerf benchmark results in inference and training and its position as the only AI cloud to earn the top Platinum ranking in SemiAnalysis ClusterMAX™ three times in a row.
As reported by Bloomberg, India's data center capacity is experiencing rapid expansion, particularly for AI applications. According to a July Wood Mackenzie report, India's data center capacity is expected to grow from 2.2 gigawatts built over three decades to 12 gigawatts by 2030. AI-specific capacity alone is projected to jump almost 24-fold to 6.5 gigawatts during this period. The expansion comes at a time when India is positioning itself as a key destination for data center and artificial intelligence infrastructure. AdaniConneX is also working on a massive India data center project for Alphabet Inc.'s Google, highlighting the growing importance of AI infrastructure development in the region. The country has built around 2.2 gigawatts of operational capacity over the past three decades and is expected to reach 12 gigawatts by 2030. The expansion into India reflects growing customer demand for CoreWeave's AI Cloud and supports India's national AI ambitions, including the IndiaAI Mission, with the country's growing role as a destination for data center investment.
The partnership announcement has been well-received in India's AI ecosystem, with CoreWeave COO Sachin Jain stating that "India has the talent, developers, and ambition to become a major center of AI innovation." As reported by Bloomberg, the expansion into India builds on CoreWeave's growing global footprint across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, following the company's recent entry into Indonesia. The company serves as a force multiplier by combining superior infrastructure performance with deep technical expertise, trusted by 9 of the 10 leading foundation model providers. However, CoreWeave shares traded about 2% lower in pre-market trading today after rising 4.95% on Tuesday, indicating mixed investor sentiment despite the positive strategic development. The announcement comes as major technology companies including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google have together pledged nearly $57 billion towards strengthening their cloud infrastructure operations in India, with Meta also working with Reliance Industries on an AI-focused data center project.
