The Tamil Nadu government has implemented an aggressive fast-track clearance system for industry projects, with departments directed to provide approvals within 25 days. According to reports from Business Standard, this initiative comes as the state seeks to maintain investor confidence following five years of aggressive positioning as India's manufacturing hub. Industry leaders report significant progress, with Bala Ramajayam, founder of G Square Group, announcing that his company secured 63 acres of residential plot conversion across Chennai, Coimbatore and Erode without paying any fees within recent weeks.
The state government has launched an extensive outreach campaign to reassure existing investors and attract new ones. As reported by Business Standard, industry leaders confirm receiving letters from the government assuring readiness to address concerns and provide 21-day approvals through green channels. The chief minister has conducted multiple rounds of meetings with major industry bodies and companies, including Larsen & Toubro Chairman S N Subrahmanyan and Hyundai Motor India MD Tarun Garg. Industry sources indicate the chief minister's approach focused primarily on listening to company concerns during these meetings.
Despite policy continuity concerns, major companies have reaffirmed their commitment to Tamil Nadu. Larsen & Toubro has signed agreements to invest ₹18,600 crore across three projects, generating employment for 8,200 people. Hyundai Motor India announced an exclusive skill development collaboration and aims to enhance procurement from Tamil Nadu-based suppliers by approximately ₹4,000 crore, creating around 2,000 additional jobs over the next five to six years. The company has also reaffirmed its continued investment of over ₹26,000 crore in Tamil Nadu during 2023-2032.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26, urging the Centre not to allow the construction of the Mekedatu dam by the Karnataka government. This comes after the Congress-led Karnataka government proposed the construction of the Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river. On May 25, CM Vijay held consultations with Cauvery water experts and legal specialists to discuss Karnataka's reported plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the project. Despite the legal setback, the state government has maintained that it will continue to explore all available legal and administrative options to oppose the project.
