
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tamil Nadu government and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for three major projects in the state. According to the Press Trust of India, the signing ceremony took place at the office of the chief minister in Chennai, with senior officials from both the Tamil Nadu government and Larsen & Toubro present at the occasion. The agreement was signed on Thursday, June 4, 2026, involving a total investment of ₹18,600 crore and the creation of employment opportunities for around 8,200 people. The MoU marks a significant investment commitment for the southern state, with the three projects collectively representing one of the largest single-partner investment announcements under the current Tamil Nadu government. The Chief Minister held discussions with L&T Chairman and Managing Director SN Subrahmanyan and appreciated the company's continued investments in Tamil Nadu and its contribution to the state's industrial growth. This marks the first industrial-sector MoU signed since the government led by CM Vijay assumed office.
The MoU covers three key projects with varying investment amounts and employment generation potential. The largest project is a Hyperscale and Edge AI data centre in Kancheepuram district, which will involve an investment of ₹15,000 crore and is expected to generate employment for 500 people. As reported by the official release, L&T will also establish an electronics manufacturing hub in Coimbatore with an investment of ₹2,500 crore, creating employment opportunities for around 2,000 people. The third project involves the expansion of L&T's offshore wind infrastructure at Kattupalli in Tiruvallur district with an investment of ₹1,100 crore, expected to create employment for approximately 5,700 people. The projects are aligned with the Tamil Nadu government's vision of transforming the state into a US$1.5 trillion economy by 2036. The projected employment figure of over 8,200 people is expected to provide a boost to the local workforce across the project sites, with further details on the timeline, nature and geographic spread of the three projects awaited.
