Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, confirmed during a media briefing that India's crude supply is secure and about 70 percent of the country's crude import is now coming from outside the Strait of Hormuz. According to the latest update from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, all refineries are currently operating at high capacity with adequate crude inventories. The ministry has confirmed that sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are being maintained across the country. The Middle East crisis has resulted in an abnormal increase in crude prices, creating challenges for the domestic market. To protect consumers from this impact, the Government of India has decided to absorb a part of this burden through a reduction in excise duties on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre. According to the ministry, there are adequate stocks of petrol and diesel available at all Petrol Pumps in the country. Priority is being given to domestic PNG consumers, CNG transport and urea plants for natural gas supply, while gas supplies to other industrial and commercial sectors have also been enhanced.
