N Marie Wilson, the newly elected MLA from RK Nagar, has been reassigned the crucial Finance Minister portfolio in the newly expanded Tamil Nadu cabinet led by actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Following the induction of 23 new Ministers into Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's Cabinet on Thursday (May 21, 2026), the Ministry's strength rose to 33. Wilson secured a commanding victory from the Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency with 97,800 votes against 48,132 votes, defeating DMK candidate J John Ebenezer by a margin of 49,668 votes. The constituency witnessed a remarkable voter turnout of 90.12 per cent this year, a sharp rise from 70.98 per cent recorded in the 2021 Assembly elections. According to PTI, Wilson secured 53.97% of the vote in RK Nagar, while the DMK and AIADMK together managed only 41.4%. Remarkably, Wilson's margin of victory alone — 27.41% — was larger than the total votes secured by the runner-up candidate.
Wilson made his electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls and joined actor-politician Vijay's TVK along with several prominent faces, including former IRS officer K.G. Arunraj, former judicial officer C Subash and a number of former legislators. As reported by NDTV Profit, he is a noted educationist and senior functionary of the Jeppiaar group, currently serving as the Managing Director of Jeppiaar Institute of Technology in Sriperumbudur and Managing Trustee of the Jeppiaar Remibai Educational Trust. Over the years, he has held several leadership positions in the education sector, including founder-director roles at Jeppiaar Engineering College and Jeppiaar International School. Wilson formally joined TVK on June 9, 2025, alongside several prominent figures, including former legislators R. Rajalakshmi, S. David Selvan, and Dr. A. Sridharan. Wilson is also believed to have played a key role in organising Vijay's closed-door interaction at the Jeppiaar Institute of Technology campus after the 2025 Karur stampede incident.
The latest cabinet expansion saw significant portfolio reallocations beyond Wilson's Finance Minister appointment. K.A. Sengottaiyan, who was earlier Finance Minister, has been redesignated as Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, with his new portfolios including Revenue, District Revenue Establishment, Deputy Collectors, Disaster Management, Bhoodhan & Gramadhan, and Legislative Assembly. CM Vijay retained his existing departments and was additionally allotted Special Initiatives, Poverty Alleviation and Rural Indebtedness. Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar retained most of his previously assigned portfolios. Among the newly sworn-in Ministers, A. Srinath was appointed Minister for Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare, S. Kamali as Minister for Animal Husbandry, C. Vijayalakshmi as Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, and R.V. Ranjithkumar as Minister for Forests. Following the cabinet expansion on Thursday, governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar allocated portfolios to the 23 ministers in the Vijay-led council of ministers. The reshuffle is being viewed as a major balancing exercise within the coalition government, aimed at accommodating regional and alliance representation.
A significant development in the cabinet expansion was the entry of Congress into the TVK-led government after 59 years of being out of power in Tamil Nadu. As reported by Moneycontrol, Congress MLA Rajesh Kumar has been inducted as Minister for Tourism, while P Viswanathan has been entrusted with the Higher Education portfolio. The Congress representation includes two legislators from the party sworn in as ministers, alongside 19 MLAs from TVK. Following a governance model similar to that adopted by Kerala, the TVK-led coalition government has also created a dedicated Artificial Intelligence portfolio, with R Kumar given charge of the Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services departments. The Women Welfare portfolio has been reassigned to Minister K Jegadeshwari, while the Women Empowerment portfolio has been created separately under Jegadeshwari K.
Wilson is also associated with JIT Global Infosystems Pvt Ltd and JIT Sports Academy. According to NDTV Profit, his appointment marks the Jeppiaar family's renewed political presence after decades, following the unsuccessful 1989 Assembly election bid of late educationist Col Dr Jeppiaar from T Nagar. Wilson was officially announced as TVK's candidate for RK Nagar when the party released its complete list of 234 candidates in March this year. In November 2025, Wilson's Jeppiaar Institute of Technology campus hosted a major closed-door TVK meeting attended by around 2,000 party cadres, drawing attention as it was among the party's first major organisational gatherings after the Karur stampede incident.
