The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has issued a public warning against a fraudulent website targeting insurance stakeholders. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine and Mint, the regulator has identified igmsirdai.online as a fake platform that falsely claims to represent IRDAI's official grievance and complaint registration services. The regulator has now confirmed that the website operates under www.igmsirdai.online and www.igmsirdai.online/register-complaint. In a public notice dated September 4, 2026, IRDAI has explicitly advised the public to avoid accessing the fraudulent website, with the notice specifically stating that 'The said website is not an official IRDAI website. The matter is being examined by IRDAI and appropriate action is being initiated/taken in accordance with applicable law.'
In a release issued on Friday, September 4, 2026, IRDAI has explicitly advised the public to avoid accessing the fraudulent website. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine and Mint, the regulator stated that the website's complaint registration page is not an official IRDAI platform and emphasized that the matter is currently under investigation with appropriate action planned against the unauthorized website. The public notice specifically states that 'The said website is not an official IRDAI website. The matter is being examined by IRDAI and appropriate action is being initiated/taken in accordance with applicable law.' The notice, numbered IRDAI/PPGR/BB/2026-27/25, was issued in the interest of the general public and to protect the interests of policyholders.
IRDAI has issued comprehensive security guidelines for all insurance stakeholders. According to the regulator's statement, policyholders and other stakeholders are advised against registering complaints or submitting any personal, policy, financial, banking, KYC, OTP or other sensitive information on the fake website or any other platform claiming to represent the regulator without proper verification. The regulator has specifically cautioned against making payments or sharing banking and financial credentials, passwords, OTPs or other confidential information in response to communications received through such fraudulent websites. As reported by Mint, the official Bima Bharosa portal currently carries a warning stating that Bima Bharosa does not ask complainants or policyholders for any payment and cautions users against scanning QR codes or using links that claim to facilitate disbursement of money into their bank accounts.
For legitimate grievance registration and tracking, IRDAI has directed users to the official Bima Bharosa portal at www.bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in. According to Mint, Bima Bharosa is IRDAI's Integrated Grievance Management System for insurance-related complaints, allowing policyholders to register complaints and track their status. The official portal explains that complaints can first be taken up with the insurer and, where required, escalated to the regulator through Bima Bharosa. For grievance-related assistance, IRDAI's official Bima Bharosa portal lists its grievance call centre numbers as 155255 and 1800 4254 732, along with the email address complaints@irdai.gov.in.
IRDAI has expanded its fraud prevention advisory to include comprehensive warnings about misuse of its identity. The regulator specifically cautions against websites, emails, messages, telephone calls or other communications that misuse IRDAI's name, logo, identity or terminology without proper verification. For those who have already submitted information through the suspected website, IRDAI advises taking appropriate precautionary measures and reporting the matter to cybercrime or law-enforcement authorities. The regulator has stated that 'IRDAI will not be responsible for any loss, disclosure of information or other consequences arising from interaction with unauthorised/fraudulent websites impersonating IRDAI.' As reported by Mint, the regulator has also asked users to verify the authenticity of any website, email, message or telephone communication that uses IRDAI's name, logo, identity or terminology before sharing information or registering a grievance.
