The Finance Ministry launched a unified online platform on Friday to help citizens search and trace unclaimed bank deposits, insurance claims, shares and mutual funds across the financial ecosystem. According to reports from PTI, the portal is accessible at https://www.unclaimedassetsportal.in and serves as a unified platform providing search facilities for unclaimed financial assets. Department of Financial Services Secretary M Nagaraju launched the unified platform during the review meeting of public sector banks, with the ministry describing it as a common entry point that brings together different search facilities on one website for easier access. The portal, developed by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) in collaboration with PSB Alliance, is designed to make it easier for individuals, nominees and legal heirs to check whether any financial assets remain unclaimed.
The portal offers a simple four-step process for users to track their unclaimed financial assets. As reported by Mint, users can visit the portal at www.unclaimedassetsportal.in and select from four main sections: bank deposits, insurance claims, shares, dividends and mutual funds. Users need to provide their PAN and phone number/email id to log in, with different authentication processes for each asset type. For example, when tracking unclaimed mutual funds, users first enter their PAN, then their phone number, and receive an OTP on their phone to proceed. Similarly, for insurance claims, users provide their phone number or email id along with their PAN number to access their information. The portal's user-friendly interface makes it easy for citizens to navigate and access their unclaimed financial assets.
The portal provides comprehensive access to search facilities relating to unclaimed bank deposits, insurance claims, shares, dividends and mutual funds available across the financial ecosystem. As reported by PTI, the initiative is expected to enhance public awareness, improve ease of access to information and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through greater financial empowerment, inclusion and trust in the financial system. The ministry expects the portal to improve trust and access for citizens while making searches simpler across the wider financial system. Financial assets often become unclaimed when account holders change addresses, fail to update contact details, forget older investments, or when nominees and family members are unaware of investments made by deceased relatives.
The portal has been launched in collaboration with PSB Alliance to facilitate easier access to information relating to unclaimed financial assets. According to the ministry statement, the initiative builds upon the nationwide campaign 'Your Money, Your Right', undertaken by the Department of Financial Services in coordination with financial sector regulators, banks and other stakeholders to facilitate awareness, tracing and restitution of unclaimed financial assets. The ministry described the portal as continuing the same effort to improve awareness, help with tracing, and support restitution of unclaimed financial assets, with the government believing a single access point can make it easier for people to identify such assets and begin the process of claiming them from the relevant institution.
Secretary M Nagaraju stated that the portal will improve citizen convenience by bringing together access to multiple search facilities on a single platform and strengthen ongoing efforts towards reconnecting individuals with their rightful financial assets. As reported by PTI, the Common Landing Portal marks an important step towards building a more accessible, transparent and citizen-centric financial ecosystem. The ministry expects the initiative to raise public awareness and support financial inclusion while the unified site is designed to cover the financial ecosystem and guide users to relevant search options, intended to reduce confusion for people checking multiple sources. The portal is expected to improve public awareness, ease access to information and strengthen trust in the financial system by simplifying the process of tracing unclaimed assets.
