The Centre's 8th pay commission is conducting meetings with employee representative groups and unions to gather recommendations on pay hikes and allowances. According to reports from Mint, the panel is expected to make significant decisions impacting salaries of 50 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners by mid-2027. The Finance Ministry announced a 2% revision in DA and DR by up from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay with effect from 1 January 2026. Latest data from the Labour Bureau shows the All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) rose by 0.8 points to reach 149.9 in April 2026, with year-on-year inflation at 4.46%. Based on this trend, the 7th Pay Commission formula indicates a 3% DA hike effective July 1, 2026, potentially raising total DA to 63% of basic pay.
The Indian Banks' Association (IBA) announced revised DA and DR for workmen and officer employees across levels for May, June and July 2026. As reported by Mint, the revision hiked basic salaries between ₹48,000 to ₹1,17,000 and DA from ₹435 to ₹1,050. This follows the central government's announcement and demonstrates coordinated implementation across sectors.
The Indian Railways announced a 2% DA and DR hike on 13 May, affecting lakhs of employees, pensioners, family pensioners, and other eligible beneficiaries covered under the 7th Central Pay Commission framework. As reported by Mint, the Joint Action Committee of road transport corporation workers' unions in Karnataka is demanding 25% salary hike and payment of DA arrears for 38 months (totalling ₹1,272 crore) in a single instalment. The West Bengal government announced it will implement the Supreme Court's order on payment of DA dues for the period between 2008 to 2019. For the latest DA revision, official Union Cabinet approval typically comes around September or October, with employees and pensioners receiving the enhanced amount in their autumn salaries along with retroactive arrears for July and August.
