
The 8th pay commission is set to meet stakeholders, unions, employee groups and representatives across states in June and July 2026. According to reports from Mint, this consultation process is being undertaken as part of the panel's process to gather feedback from related parties on allowances, pay hikes, salary structure, and other elements. The commission has already held consultations for unions and organisations under the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Defence in Delhi on 13 and 14 May, and with concerned stakeholders in Hyderabad, Telangana on 18-19 May. Recent weeks have seen intensified consultations as employee bodies continue pressing for salary and pension revisions amid rising inflation and household expenses.
As reported by Mint, the commission has invited interested stakeholders to interact with the Commission at the following cities: Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir from 1-4 June 2026 (Monday-Thursday) to hold discussions with concerned stakeholders. The UT of Ladakh visit is scheduled for 8 June 2026 (Monday). Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from 22-23 June (Monday and Tuesday) will host discussions, with appointment requests must be completed on or before 10 June. Bhubaneshwar, Odisha from 6-7 July (Monday and Tuesday) will also host discussions, with appointment requests due on or before 15 June. The commission has stated that separate meetings will be scheduled in other Uttar Pradesh cities, at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and at cities in other states and union territories in due course.
According to the latest official notice, the 8th Pay Commission will visit Kolkata, West Bengal on 9-10 July 2026 (Thursday and Friday) to interact with stakeholders, including central government organisations, institutions, unions and associations. Interested stakeholders who wish to meet the commission during this visit can submit a request for an appointment through the designated online link at https://nicforms.nic.in/enRhYmxlNmExMDEwZWRjOTk5ZjIwMjYwNTIyMTE0 on or before 15 June 2026. The notice stated that organisations and unions must submit their requests along with a "unique Memo ID" generated after filing their memorandum before the Commission. The commission will visit the Union Territory of Ladakh on June 8, 2026, to interact with stakeholders, and has an 18-month deadline to submit its report of recommendations, and may also submit an interim report if the submission of the recommendation report is delayed.
According to Mint, the 8th CPC is chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Pankaj Jain, former IAS, as Member-Secretary, and Professor Pulak Ghosh, tenured Professor of Finance, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, as a Member of the Commission. The commission is expected to make its final recommendations sometime in 2027, around 18 months after being constituted on 3 November 2025. As per past trends, once the pay commission's recommendations are made, roll out takes another two to three years to complete, meaning hikes announced in 2027 may only be fully implemented by 2029 or 2030. The commission has invited suggestions and memorandums till 31 May after opening formal memorandum submissions in March, and began meetings with stakeholders in April, with other meetings scheduled in May and June.
As reported by Mint, around 50 lakh central government employees and around 65 lakh retired central government pensioners, including defence personnel and retirees, will be impacted by the panel's decisions. The commission has invited suggestions and memorandums till 31 May after opening formal memorandum submissions in March. To reach consensus, it will gather inputs, analyse the data and then decide allowances, pension formula and salary structures for the relevant employee and retiree groups. The panel this month also invited applications from candidates for full-time and part-time consultant roles on a one-year contractual basis to make recommendations related to emolument structure of different categories of officers, employees and on pensions. Central government employees and pensioners are closely tracking possible revisions in salaries and pensions. Employee unions across the country have already submitted several demands before the Commission, including merger of Dearness Allowance (DA) into basic pay, revision in family-unit formula, and other key reforms.
