The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) has officially released its updated stakeholder consultation schedule for May and June 2026 following recent meetings in Delhi. According to the latest notification issued on May 1, 2026, the commission will visit Hyderabad, Telangana on 18-19 May 2026 and Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir from 1-4 June 2026. The commission has also confirmed its visit to the UT of Ladakh on 8 June 2026 and will conduct consultations for unions under the Ministry of Railways and Defence in Delhi on 13-14 May 2026. The commission has introduced a structured appointment system for stakeholder interactions. As per the latest guidelines, stakeholders interested in interacting with the panel must first submit a memorandum on the official website of the 8th Pay Commission. Subsequently, they must request an appointment via a prescribed online form by May 8, 2026. To schedule an appointment, the unique Memorandum ID generated at the time of submitting the memorandum will be required. This represents a more organized approach compared to the previous consultation process, ensuring better coordination and transparency in stakeholder engagement.
The 8th CPC is chaired by Former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai and includes Professor Pulak Ghosh as Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary. According to Mint, the commission was announced in 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is expected to make significant decisions impacting nearly 50 lakh central government employees and around 65 lakh retired central government pensioners, including defence personnel. The commission is constituted every 10 years and is expected to make decisions on allowances, pay hikes, salary structure, dearness allowance and fitment factor. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet has already approved the Terms of Reference of 8th CPC, with the Government also forming and notifying the new CPC.
As reported by TimesBull, the commission will gather views and inputs from labour representatives and groups, ministries, pension bodies, employee unions and other stakeholders. The collected data will be analysed to decide allowances, pension formula and salary structures for relevant employee and retiree groups. The feedback shared during these sessions is anticipated to significantly influence the design of future reforms concerning remuneration and pension structures for the central government workforce. The final document is slated for submission roughly 18 months following the Commission's inception on 3 November 2025. Recent developments include meetings in Dehradun, Uttarakhand and a significant session in Delhi, with the commission now moving forward with its comprehensive consultation process. Organisations, institutions, unions and associations seeking to interact with the Commission in Srinagar must submit their memorandum and apply for an appointment before May 16, 2026, while stakeholders from central government organisations and Ladakh-based unions can apply before May 16, 2026.
