More than 31.78 crore unorganised workers have registered on the e-Shram portal as of July 14, 2026, according to Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje's written reply to the Lok Sabha. The Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the e-Shram portal on 26 August 2021, covering unorganised workers including migrant workers, gig workers and platform workers. The portal registers unorganised workers, including gig and platform workers, and provides them with a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration to establish a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW).
The ministry launched the e-Shram 'One-Stop-Solution' on 21 October 2024, integrating different welfare schemes on a single platform. As reported by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, 15 schemes of different Central Ministries/Departments have already been integrated/ mapped with the e-Shram to extend benefits and access to social security schemes to e-Shram cardholders. The integrated schemes include Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), and Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM).
On January 29, 2025, the Ministry launched Microsites for States and Union Territories to provide each with a dedicated e-Shram Microsite aimed at addressing local requirements and challenges more effectively. These Microsites facilitate worker registration, data updates, verification, and offer state-specific analytics tailored to unique needs. This initiative complements the national portal's comprehensive approach to serving India's diverse unorganised workforce across different regions and states.
Beyond social security schemes, the portal is connected with various government platforms to provide additional services to e-Shram cardholders. According to the ministry release, these include the National Career Service (NCS) for job opportunities, Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for skill development, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) for pension benefits, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) convergence portal. This comprehensive integration provides workers with access to employment services, skill development programs, and pension benefits through a unified platform.
