Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC has announced a series of senior leadership appointments, naming two deputy group chief investment officers (DGCIOs) and appointing a new chief investment officer for its Fixed Income & Multi Asset (FIMA) business. According to reports from The Business Times, these changes aim to strengthen oversight of the fund's global investment operations. The appointments will take effect on October 1, 2026, as announced by GIC on July 10, 2026.
As part of the leadership reshuffle, Choo Yong Cheen, currently the CIO for Private Equity, has been appointed deputy group chief investment officer while continuing in his existing role. According to The Business Times, his expanded responsibilities will include oversight of GIC's private market investment businesses, covering private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and the Integrated Strategies Group, which focuses on non-traditional investment opportunities. Liew Tzu Mi will step down from her current role as CIO for Fixed Income and Multi Asset (FIMA) but will retain her leadership role as director of the portfolio execution and solutions group and take on the added responsibility of overseeing total portfolio research and strategy. Both DGCIOs will support the Group Chief Investment Officer (GCIO) and all CIOs will continue to report to the GCIO.
With Liew stepping down from FIMA, Liang Jiajie has been promoted to CIO for FIMA. As reported by The Business Times, Liang, who has been with FIMA's core leadership team for nearly a decade, will also continue in his current role as head of global macro, a position he has held since 2018. He previously assumed the role of deputy CIO for FIMA in April 2026. Under the new structure, all CIOs will continue to report directly to the group CIO.
The investment firm maintains a workforce of more than 2,500 employees spread across 11 financial centres globally and maintains investments in more than 40 countries. As reported by Reuters, this extensive global footprint underscores the significance of the leadership changes in managing the fund's international investment operations.
