Investment platform smallcase has launched curated portfolios of US-listed stocks and global exchange-traded funds, expanding overseas investment options for Indian investors. According to reports from The Economic Times, the offering combines professional management, fractional investing, portfolio tracking and automatic rebalancing, with investments starting at $50. The launch builds on the company's rollout of direct US equity investing earlier this year, allowing investors to access professionally managed portfolios based on long-term strategies, sectors and investment themes. Fractional investing enables users to access the portfolios without having to purchase whole shares, making global investing more accessible to retail investors.
The platform operates under the International Financial Services Centres Authority's Global Access Provider framework, with US broking services provided through an IFSCA-registered Global Access Provider at GIFT City. As reported by The Economic Times, fund transfers will be facilitated by an IFSCA-registered payment service provider under the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme. The offering uses smallcase's portfolio-investing infrastructure and aims to bridge the information gap that exists for Indian investors in global markets.
The platform will feature existing smallcase managers expanding into international investments, along with new portfolio managers specialising in US equities. According to The Economic Times, investors who want to research and buy individual US stocks and ETFs can continue to do so through Tickertape, a stock-analysis platform owned by the smallcase group. Both services will be accessible through a unified investment account, allowing investors to choose between individual securities and managed US equity portfolios. Those seeking professionally constructed portfolios can invest through the smallcase app, with the platform offering portfolio tracking and automatic rebalancing features.
Founded in 2016, smallcase offers investment products and technology platforms focused on listed stocks, ETFs and real estate investment trusts. As reported by The Economic Times, its offerings have served more than 10 million individual investors, while its technology is used by over 250 financial institutions. The company's founder and chief executive Vasanth Kamath noted that while access to global markets has become easier, deciding where to invest remains a much bigger challenge for Indian investors due to the significantly larger information gap compared to domestic markets. The curated portfolios aim to bridge this information gap by combining professional portfolio management with fractional investing and automatic rebalancing.
