The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has officially launched UPI-based PF withdrawal services as part of the EPFO 3.0 initiative, marking a significant digital transformation in provident fund accessibility. According to reports from Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, testing for the UPI payment gateway system has been completed, and the service could be launched soon if everything goes according to plan. The new system allows users to withdraw up to 75% of the available PF amount while the remaining 25% may continue to stay in the PF account, with expectations that this limit could be increased in the future. This eliminates the need to repeatedly log in to websites or apps for basic account details, making PF withdrawals significantly faster and more convenient for millions of employees across India.
Alongside the UPI launch, EPFO has introduced a comprehensive WhatsApp-based information service that enables users to access important PF services through the messaging platform. Users can simply send a message such as "Hi" or "Hello" on the official EPFO WhatsApp number to access information including PF balance checks, download passbooks, track claim status, update account details, and receive important notifications directly through WhatsApp. This service complements the UPI withdrawal system, providing multiple digital access points for EPFO subscribers without requiring visits to EPFO offices or repeated portal logins.
The combined UPI and WhatsApp services represent a comprehensive digital transformation that streamlines the entire PF management process for subscribers. The UPI withdrawal system allows users to log in to the EPFO portal or app, check the amount eligible for withdrawal, and receive direct bank transfers for eligible withdrawals. Additionally, EPFO has introduced an auto-settlement process that significantly reduces processing time, with many claims now reportedly settled within direct electronic transfers to bank accounts and reduced delays during weekends or holidays. These digital updates are expected to make PF withdrawals and account management significantly faster and more convenient for millions of employees across India.
The new digital services are designed to help millions of subscribers, especially those who find the EPFO website complicated or face technical issues in availing online services. The WhatsApp service is expected to help millions of subscribers, especially those who find the EPFO website complicated or face technical issues in availing online services. The service is designed to simplify the process for workers who may not have regular access to computers or face challenges with traditional online platforms. Until the UPI facility officially becomes available, employees can continue using the existing online claim process through the EPFO portal, but the new systems are expected to significantly improve accessibility and convenience for EPFO subscribers.
