Brokers are increasingly investing in proprietary technology to differentiate themselves from competitors. Sahi, a broking platform, has developed an in-house charting system that allows users to execute trades directly from charts, unlike most platforms that require users to exit charts to place orders. According to Manish Jain, co-founder at Sahi, the platform offers comprehensive trading capabilities including entering trades from charts, viewing positions on charts, setting stop loss and take profit positions, and modifying orders directly from the chart interface. As reported by Mint, Sahi's ownership of its charting technology enables faster feature development and updates compared to third-party systems used by other brokers.
Several brokers are focusing on specific demographic segments to capture untapped market opportunities. Trackk has positioned itself as a broker catering primarily to young investors, with approximately 95% of its clients being Gen Z. Similarly, Dhan has launched Millions, a separate platform targeting new investors entering the market. As reported by Mint, the Millions platform encourages users to set financial goals rather than jumping into specific products like derivatives, with features including indicative asset allocation based on age and expense management tools for young users struggling with monthly income management.
The addressable market for new investors represents a significant opportunity in the current landscape. According to Vedant Gupte, co-founder and CEO of investment platform Trackk, there are over 50 million Gen Z individuals across tier-I and tier-II cities who still do not have a demat account, representing an untapped opportunity for investing platforms. Despite India having over 200 million demat accounts, only a small fraction of investors actively trade monthly, with millions of serious traders generating bulk exchange volumes. As reported by Mint, equity derivatives turnover on NSE reached ₹35.76 trillion in July and ₹166 trillion in FY27 so far.
Brokers have demonstrated significant growth through innovative approaches and niche targeting. Sahi reported 200,917 active clients in June 2026, representing a near 16-fold jump from 12,632 clients a year earlier. While Dhan's Millions platform and Trackk are both less than a month old, they are targeting the growing market of young investors entering the financial markets for the first time. As reported by Mint, established brokers are also moving towards specialised platforms, with Groww launching the 915 application for professional traders and HDFC Securities introducing HDFC Sky for simultaneous trade management across different positions and strategies.
