
Indian benchmark indices closed higher on Monday as US-Iran talks resumed and supportive Q4 earnings by India Inc. drove market sentiment. The BSE Sensex advanced 639.42 points, or 0.83% to close at 77,303.63, while NSE's Nifty50 rallied 194.75 points, or 0.81% to end at 24,092.70. Several companies are set to announce their March 2026 quarter results today, including Coal India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Trent, Adani Gas, AU SFB, RailTel, Bajaj Housing, Punjab & Sind Bank, SAMIL, and NAM India. The market focus remains on corporate earnings across sectors, with Coal India and other major companies expected to remain in focus today.
Indian corporate earnings delivered mixed results across key sectors on April 29, with several companies reporting significant profit growth. Bandhan Bank led the banking sector with a 68% jump in profit to ₹534.1 crore compared to ₹317.9 crore in the same period last year. The bank's net interest income increased 1.4% to ₹2,795.6 crore from ₹2,755.9 crore. CEAT recorded an exceptional 145.1% surge in profit to ₹243.85 crore versus ₹99.5 crore last year, with revenue rising 23.3% to ₹4,218.9 crore from ₹3,420.6 crore. Eternal, which owns the Zomato and Blinkit brands, reported a multi-fold rise in consolidated net profit to ₹174 crore in Q4 compared with ₹39 crore a year ago. Coal India saw its net profits jump by 11.2% to ₹10,839 crore in Q4 FY26, while revenue was up 5.8% to ₹46,490 crore. Nippon Life India Asset Management posted a 28.8% increase in net profit to ₹385 crore, with total income rising 19.6% to ₹705 crore.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers posted strong results with profit rising 24.1% to ₹303.2 crore versus ₹244.2 crore a year earlier, while revenue increased 29% to ₹2,119.2 crore from ₹1,642 crore. However, Sanofi India reported a 14.1% fall in profit to ₹102.6 crore compared with ₹119.5 crore, with revenue declining 11.9% to ₹472.3 crore from ₹535.9 crore. Canara HSBC Life Insurance showed steady growth with profit increasing 8.2% to ₹34.7 crore compared with ₹32.1 crore, while net premium income grew 13.2% to ₹3,060.7 crore from ₹2,703.5 crore.
Maruti Suzuki announced a record capital expenditure of ₹14,000 crore for FY27 as it plans to expand capacity to meet rising demand after achieving full utilisation at existing facilities. Punjab & Sind Bank is looking to raise up to ₹3,000 crore through a private placement share sale to comply with minimum public shareholding norms set by SEBI. IFCI Ltd launched ESG PRAKRIT, a comprehensive ESG technology platform aimed at providing ESG assessment, reporting, and advisory solutions to banks, financial institutions, and corporates. BHEL entered into a licensing agreement with NSTL-DRDO for the transfer of technology for naval vessels, while Solara Active Pharma Sciences announced successful completion of US FDA inspection at its Puducherry facility. RailTel Corporation of India received a Letter of Acceptance worth ₹145 crore from Eastern Coalfields, and Tata Communications issued commercial paper worth ₹750 crore.
