
Coal India delivered exceptional first-quarter performance and secured a significant renewable energy contract, winning a ₹2,831.11 crore Letter of Award from Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited for a 600 MW solar project at Jalaun Solar Park, Uttar Pradesh. The project involves two 300 MW units selling power at ₹2.73 per unit, with completion expected within 18 months of signing the power purchase agreement. Hindustan Zinc maintained its exceptional track record with highest-ever first-quarter mined metal production at 268 kt, up 1% YoY and marking the fifth consecutive year of record Q1 mined metal output. According to reports from NDTV Profit, saleable metal production rose 4% YoY to 260 kt, supported by a 6% YoY increase in refined zinc production to 213 kt.
Bharti Airtel's subsidiary Airtel Money achieved a significant milestone by beginning commercial operations as a Type II non-deposit accepting NBFC after receiving RBI registration on February 13. The company plans to infuse ₹20,000 crore of capital over the next few years, with Airtel funding 70% and promoter entity Bharti Enterprises the remaining 30%. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles faced headwind pressures as Q1 FY27 wholesale volumes fell 9.2% YoY to 79,300 units, with retail sales declining 15.3% YoY to 80,000 units. As reported by NDTV Profit, management attributed the decline to temporary supply chain disruptions and the ongoing Jaguar model transition.
NMDC reported exceptional production growth with June production jumping 44% YoY to 5.15 million tonnes, taking cumulative Q1 FY27 output to 15.10 MT, up 25.9% from a year earlier. Sales for the month rose 11% to 3.98 MT. The Chhattisgarh operations led the charge with quarterly production up 37.2% and offtake up 14.2%, while the Karnataka division maintained steady mine output despite sales slipping to 2.46 MT from 3.38 MT a year ago. Coal India expanded its total coal supplies by 3.5% YoY to 197.7 MT during Q1 FY27, with fuel supplies to the power sector rising 1.8% YoY to 154.75 MT and non-regulated sector supplies growing by a strong 10% YoY to 43.1 MT.
South Indian Bank reported strong growth with gross advances rising 17% YoY to ₹1,04,366 crore for the June quarter, while total deposits grew 11.4% to ₹1,25,786 crore, crossing the ₹1.25 lakh crore mark for the first time. CASA deposits rose 14.6% to ₹41,493 crore, lifting the CASA ratio to 32.99% from 32.06% a year earlier. The bank noted that a ₹1,048 crore technical write-off in the March quarter weighed on the headline advances number, and underlying growth would have been 18% excluding that adjustment. Central Bank of India recorded well-rounded business growth in Q1 FY27, with total deposits increasing 11.7% YoY to ₹4.79 lakh crore and gross advances jumping an impressive 28.8% YoY to ₹3.55 lakh crore.
Hero MotoCorp announced significant investments exceeding ₹3,200 crore in Andhra Pradesh over the next three to five years, anchored by a ₹750 crore second Global Parts Centre in Tirupati. Executive Chairman Pawan Munjal said the expansion, which includes raising the Tirupati plant's annual capacity to 1.2-1.5 million units from about 0.6 million currently, is expected to generate around 4,000 jobs. The new parts hub will handle domestic and international spare parts operations and expand Hero's accessories and merchandising business, with the Tirupati plant currently manufacturing the company's entire electric vehicle portfolio.
