The National Stock Exchange of India has successfully achieved nanosecond-level order acknowledgement across all key trading segments, marking a transformative upgrade in its trading infrastructure. According to reports from The Economic Times, the feature went live for currency derivatives in July 2025, commodity derivatives in December 2025, and capital markets/equity derivatives from April 11, 2026. Under the enhanced process flow, every order sent to the NSE trading system now receives immediate acknowledgement within nanoseconds, representing a dramatic improvement over the previous response time of about 100 microseconds. This milestone positions NSE as the world's first exchange to claim nanosecond-level response times for order acknowledgement, with no other global market currently making similar claims.
The upgrade represents a phased system enhancement that has been implemented across segments in a systematic manner. As reported by The Economic Times, currency derivatives adopted the feature in July 2025 (Circular: NSE/CD/69056), followed by commodity derivatives in December 2025 (Circular: NSE/COM/71599), with the final rollout covering capital markets and equity derivatives from April 11, 2026 (Circular: NSE/CMTR/72769 and NSE/FAOP/72763). The extension to Cash and Equity Derivatives segments includes a phased coexistence period, allowing members to transition smoothly from the existing encryption framework without disrupting live trading operations.
Under the new framework, traders receive immediate confirmation that their orders have reached the exchange system, even before final processing or execution status is communicated. According to The Economic Times, this real-time receipt confirmation is followed by the standard processing and confirmation or rejection message, ensuring that market participants can track order receipt instantaneously with dramatically improved certainty and transparency. The enhancement is expected to improve operational confidence for traders and institutions, enabling faster decision-making, better risk management and clearer visibility into market activity, particularly in high-frequency trading environments. The Immediate Acknowledgement feature, deployed as part of a new encryption mechanism, provides market participants with unprecedented real-time visibility into order processing.
The achievement positions NSE at the forefront of exchange technology globally, as there are currently no other markets claiming nanosecond-level response times for order acknowledgement, according to the exchange. As reported by The Economic Times, this milestone reinforces NSE's focus on technology-led market infrastructure and maintaining competitive parity with global peers. For NSE, which is already the world's largest derivatives exchange by volume, the upgrade reinforces its commitment to technology-led market infrastructure development and further establishes India's position at the forefront of global exchange technology. The deployment of this transformative feature reinforces the Exchange's commitment to building a transparent, efficient, and world-class capital markets ecosystem.
