The Nifty Realty Index continued its strong momentum, ending 2.26% higher at 818.1 points on Tuesday, extending its recent rally. This latest surge brings the index's total gains to 8% over the past month, significantly outperforming the broader market. According to Business Standard, the real estate sector's outperformance reflects attractive valuations after a prolonged correction and positive pre-sales guidance, with analysts highlighting stable operational performance and a favorable residential real estate cycle.
Among the realty sector constituents, Aditya Birla Real Estate led with a 6.10% increase during Tuesday's session, followed by Brigade Enterprises which gained 5.28% and Prestige Estates Projects which rose 3.30%. Other notable performers included Godrej Properties which surged 9%, Brigade Enterprises which gained 5-7%, and Aditya Birla Real Estate which rose 5-7%. As reported by The Economic Times, these strong performances contributed significantly to the overall index gains, with these stocks having declined up to 50% in the past year before the recent rally.
The realty sector's outperformance came amid broader market gains, with the Nifty 50 recording a 0.57% gain to close at 23,989.15 points and the S&P BSE Sensex surging 0.71% to 76,808.48 points on Tuesday. According to Business Standard, expectations of easing interest rates are supporting affordability and developer momentum, with lower rate expectations improving funding conditions and helping developers maintain launch momentum. The market breadth remained strong with 3,140 shares rising and 770 shares falling on the BSE, while 260 shares remained unchanged.
Despite the recent rally, the Nifty Realty Index has faced significant challenges over the longer term, decreasing 20% over the last one year compared to the 3.84% fall in the benchmark Nifty 50 index. As reported by Business Standard, this substantial underperformance highlights the sector's recovery from its prolonged correction period, with the current rally representing a significant acceleration from the sector's historical struggles. The contrasting performance between the realty index and broader market over the past year underscores the sector's cyclical nature and the current favorable conditions driving the recent momentum.
