The Nifty PSU Bank index has been hovering around its long-term 200-day moving average (200-DMA) of 8,601 for the last month, according to Mirae Asset Sharekhan. The index tested the 200-DMA in 16 out of the last 24 trading sessions, suggesting a stiff tussle between bulls and bears at this key technical level. As reported by Business Standard, the 200-DMA serves as a widely used technical indicator to determine long-term trends, with indices trading above it considered in an uptrend.
The PSU Bank index has been consolidating since hitting a peak of 9,918 in February 2026, as noted by Mirae Asset Sharekhan. According to the technical analysis, key support levels are identified at ₹8,200 and resistance at ₹8,800. The analyst expects a breakout above the recent swing high to be needed for a positive shift, otherwise consolidation between ₹8,200 and ₹8,800 is anticipated, with medium-term support at ₹8,000. The overall structure remains sideways to negative for the short term.
Canara Bank is currently trading at ₹127.76, below its 200-DMA of ₹138.80, signalling continued corrective phase toward the ₹126 level, with key medium-term support at ₹116. On the upside, a break above the ₹130–140 hurdle zone is required to shift the trend positive, potentially targeting ₹148–160 levels. Bank of Baroda at ₹242.80 has been forming a "lower top, lower bottom" pattern since peaking at ₹325, appearing resilient around the ₹235 level with immediate support at ₹220. The analyst expects consolidation between ₹235 and ₹250 in the short-term, with medium-term structure looking mildly bullish.
According to Mirae Asset Sharekhan, Bank of India at ₹145.73 could see a pullback as it seems to have formed multiple support levels around ₹134, with momentum indicators suggesting buying interest for the short-to-medium term and an upward move possible once the stock crosses above ₹148. Indian Overseas Bank at ₹32.94 shows resilient momentum indicators with the stock expected to trend upward once it crosses ₹35, representing a 38% retracement of its base formation. UCO Bank at ₹24.86 needs to cross ₹26 for the trend to turn favorable, with key support at ₹21. The analysis suggests buying opportunities for the short-to-medium term for several PSU bank stocks despite the current sideways consolidation phase.
