
Eicher Motors Ltd emerged as the top performer with shares closing at ₹7,334.00, gaining 5.05% and recording a volume of 3.78 lakh shares. Shriram Finance Ltd followed closely with shares at ₹966.85, posting gains of 2.75% and trading volume of 6.73 lakh shares. According to reports from ET Now, other notable gainers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd at ₹3,164.20 (+2.69%), Bajaj Finance Ltd at ₹937.20 (+2.25%), and HDFC Bank Ltd at ₹783.85 (+2.22%). Bajaj Auto Ltd also featured among the top gainers with shares at ₹10,767.50 (+2.07%).
Hindalco Industries Ltd led the losers with shares declining 1.46% to close at ₹1,093 after announcing its Q4FY26 results. The company reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹78,133 crore in Q4FY26, compared with ₹64,890 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year, registering a growth of 20.4% YoY. However, profit after tax fell 50.8% YoY to ₹2,597 crore as against ₹5,284 crore reported in Q4FY25. The decline was attributed to higher exceptional expenses of ₹4,171 crore during the quarter compared with exceptional income of ₹6 crore in Q4FY25. Oil & Natural Gas Corpn Ltd followed with shares declining 1.24% to ₹286.40 and volume of 17.56 lakh shares.
According to HDFC SKY reports, markets are set for a strong opening on May 26 as Gifty Nifty futures traded at 23,910, significantly above the Nifty's Friday close of 23,719. The Nifty 50 is expected to open sharply higher, going in step with futures which traded 1.03% higher while the Sensex climbed 1.09%. This positive momentum follows global cues where Asian markets rallied strongly on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei jumping 3% to fresh record highs. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose more than 1%, while US stock futures climbed and oil prices slipped sharply, signalling a positive opening for Indian equities as investors welcomed signs of progress in US-Iran peace negotiations.
Despite revenue growth, Hindalco Industries faced significant profitability challenges in Q4FY26. The company reported total income of ₹79,158 crore during the quarter against ₹65,590 crore in Q4FY25. However, profit before tax declined 47.3% YoY to ₹3,451 crore from ₹6,550 crore in the year-ago quarter. Total expenses increased to ₹71,532 crore from ₹59,046 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year, with cost of materials consumed rising sharply to ₹55,890 crore from ₹40,430 crore reported a year earlier. The company announced a final dividend of ₹5 per equity share for FY26, with the record date fixed as July 10, 2026.
