Market breadth remained strong with 2,446 shares rising and 1,211 shares falling on the BSE.

The Government of India will sell up to a 1 percent stake in Coal India via an offer-for-sale (OFS) on May 27 and May 29, with an option to additionally offload another 1 percent stake. As reported by Moneycontrol, the floor price has been fixed at ₹412 per share. The company has also received an order worth ₹171.45 crore from a renowned independent power producer/EPC player for the supply of solar PV modules.
JK Tyre & Industries has approved a ₹4,980 crore investment to expand its Truck & Bus Radial (TBR) and Passenger Car Radial (PCR) tyre capacity by 24% by FY2030. The expansion at Chennai and Vikrant plants aims to meet robust demand and will be funded via internal accruals and debt. Currently, the company's combined existing capacity for TBR and PCR tyres stands at 210 lakh tyres per annum, with capacity utilization currently over 90% of installed capacity. The new capacity is scheduled to be added by Financial Year 2029-30, with the decision following a board meeting held on May 26, 2026.
Indian equity benchmarks are expected to open on a flat note on Tuesday, May 26, tracking mixed global cues and cautious investor sentiment amid ongoing U.S.-Iran peace negotiations. Gift Nifty was trading near the 24,057 mark, a discount of nearly 41 points from the previous close of Nifty futures, indicating a muted start for domestic equities. On Monday, the Sensex surged 1,073.61 points, or 1.42 per cent, to close at 76,488.96, while the Nifty 50 advanced 312.40 points, or 1.32 per cent, to settle at 24,031.70. Brent crude for July 2026 settlement tanked $5.17 or 4.99% to $98.37 a barrel, providing relief from previous concerns about crude oil prices above $100 per barrel. The NSE's India VIX fell 2.97% to 16.21, indicating reduced market volatility expectations. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers of Indian equities worth ₹821.75 crore on May 25, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) remained buyers, purchasing shares worth ₹3,856.88 crore.
Orchid Pharma rose 2.33% after the company reported a 6.68% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹23.78 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2026, compared with ₹22.29 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Venus Pipes & Tubes rallied 3.13% after the company announced the commencement of commercial operations of its fittings facility along with the commissioning of additional seamless pipes/tubes capacity. However, Royal Orchid Hotels slipped 4.91% after the company reported a 39.57% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹7.94 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2026, compared with ₹13.14 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. National Aluminium Company, Adani Enterprises, Hindalco Industries, Hindustan Zinc, and JSW Steel also posted gains in the metal sector.
Crude oil prices rebounded following reports of fresh military action involving Iran, with Brent crude futures rising 1.5% to USD 97.56 per barrel after tumbling 7% in the previous session. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude traded at USD 91.25 per barrel. Higher crude oil prices remain a concern for India due to their impact on inflation and import costs. Gold prices declined as rising oil prices increased concerns over inflation, with spot gold falling 0.6% to USD 4,544.33 per ounce and spot silver slipping 0.8% to USD 77.42 per ounce.
