Other major constituents of the BSE Energy index also faced selling pressure today. Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd decreased 3.88%, while Indraprastha Gas Ltd lost 1.27% on the trading day. As reported by Business Standard, the BSE Energy index has shown resilience over the longer term, declining only 0.54% over the last year compared to the 6.88% fall in the benchmark SENSEX during the same period.
Trading activity in Coal India Ltd remained subdued with 2.92 lakh shares traded on the BSE, significantly below the 5.3 lakh shares average daily volume recorded over the past month. According to Business Standard, the stock has experienced notable volatility in recent months, hitting a record high of ₹490.9 on April 30, 2026, and touching a 52-week low of ₹368.55 on August 28, 2025. The current trading price of ₹434.5 represents a decline from these recent extremes.
