BSE Ltd has officially confirmed its transition to directly manage international market data licensing, with the exchange announcing the change on Monday, June 29. According to the latest statement from BSE Ltd, the exchange will directly manage the licensing of its market data products for international clients starting January 1, 2027, taking over from Deutsche Börse AG, which previously handled these operations since their October 2013 agreement. The official announcement confirms the strategic shift in BSE's international market data operations that was previously reported by The Economic Times.
International clients will continue to receive BSE Market Data Products from BSE starting January 1, 2027, with no interruption in service, as confirmed by the latest official statement from BSE Ltd. The exchange emphasized that there will be no change for clients based out of India, who will continue to access market data products directly from BSE. This ensures seamless service delivery to international customers during the transition period, with the exchange maintaining its commitment to uninterrupted service for all international clients. As per ET Now, the transition process will be carried out jointly with Deutsche Börse AG to ensure that existing customers continue to receive uninterrupted services. To continue receiving BSE India Information Products beyond December 31, 2026, international clients have been advised to contact BSE directly by writing to [email protected].
Under the existing October 2013 agreement, BSE and Deutsche Börse AG have maintained a structured approach to market data services. According to the official statement from BSE Ltd, Deutsche Börse AG was responsible for sales and marketing of all BSE market data products to customers outside of India, while BSE serves all the domestic clients directly. This arrangement has been in place for nearly a decade, providing a stable framework for international market data distribution that will now be managed entirely by BSE. Under the partnership, Deutsche Börse AG handled the sales, marketing and licensing of BSE's market data products across international markets, while BSE retained responsibility for servicing clients within India.
BSE offers a comprehensive suite of market information products that will now be managed directly by the exchange. The exchange's offerings include Tick-by-Tick (TBT) data feeds, which are widely used by global financial institutions, exchanges, data vendors, brokers and market participants. As Asia's oldest stock exchange and the world's largest exchange by the number of listed companies, BSE has played a pivotal role in the development of India's capital markets by providing an efficient platform for capital raising and securities trading. Its benchmark index, Sensex, is among the most closely tracked indicators of the Indian equity market and is widely regarded as a barometer of the country's economic performance. Besides equity trading, BSE offers trading in debt instruments, equity and currency derivatives, interest rate derivatives, commodity derivatives, Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR), and mutual fund distribution services.
The decision signals a significant shift in BSE's global market data strategy, enabling the exchange to engage directly with clients outside India and manage product distribution on its own. By taking direct control of international licensing, BSE is positioning itself to strengthen relationships with global customers and expand its presence in the growing market data business. Market data has emerged as a key revenue source for stock exchanges worldwide, with real-time and historical trading data widely used by institutional investors, algorithmic trading firms, exchanges, index providers and fintech companies for research, investment decisions, trading strategies and analytical purposes. The move represents BSE's increased control over its international market data licensing operations and customer relationships, marking the end of a partnership that has been in place since October 2013.
