The Indian stock market will observe a stock market holiday on Thursday, May 28, 2026, as declared by both BSE and NSE. According to reports from Livemint and Angel One, this marks a holiday shortened week for the Indian stock market, with major bourses closing operations on account of Bakri Id. The Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, Currency Derivatives Segments & NDS-RST and Tri Party Repo segments will remain closed for trading on Thursday, May 28. However, NSE has clarified that regular trading will resume on May 27, 2026, addressing earlier confusion among investors about the holiday date. As per Angel One, markets will reopen on Friday, May 29, ensuring a complete market shutdown for the day.
The commodity derivatives trading will remain closed for the morning session on Thursday, May 28, as per the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) holiday calendar. As reported by Livemint and Angel One, the trading in commodities on May 28 will be closed during the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, MCX will operate only in the evening session from 5:00 PM onwards, with evening trading continuing until 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM depending on the commodity category. This represents a partial holiday for MCX compared to the complete closure for NSE and BSE.

There are no trading holidays scheduled in July 2026, with the remaining exchange holidays in calendar year 2026 including September 14 – Ganesh Chaturthi, October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, November 10 – Diwali-Balipratipada, and November 24 – Guru Nanak Jayanti. Out of the total 16 market holidays in 2026, eight are still remaining.
