XT Exchange has launched XT Pay, a payment solution that connects USDT balances with local QR networks, addressing the final barrier to stablecoin adoption. According to reports from XT Exchange, the service enables eligible users in supported markets to make purchases at participating merchants using USDT held in an XT Spot account. The payment process begins in the XT App, while a designated third-party provider processes the local QR transaction and settles with the merchant in local currency.
The stablecoin payment ecosystem faces a critical last mile problem where customers may have sufficient USDT balance but cannot use it at point-of-sale due to technical barriers. As reported by XT Exchange, this occurs when customers' USDT balances sit in exchange accounts while merchants accept QR payments but require local currency settlement. The solution requires converting USDT to local currency, withdrawing funds, and transferring them to another payment application before completing purchases.
According to Arman Achmed, COO of XT Exchange, the service extends the exchange's role beyond asset availability to account utility after trading. The arrangement separates customer funding preferences from merchant payment systems, allowing businesses to participate in USDT-funded purchases without becoming USDT holders. XT Exchange positions payments as independent from trading decisions, expanding platform usage reasons beyond position entry and exit.
