The XRP Ledger achieved a significant milestone by processing 3,254 transactions in a single block, marking a new high as XRP's price rose nearly 4%. According to XRPL validator Vet, most transactions were small XRP payments, likely part of a throughput test, demonstrating the network's ability to handle bursts of simple payments. Unlike Bitcoin's fixed block size, XRPL's adaptive transaction target allows variable block sizes based on network performance, so this record reflects a high-volume event rather than a permanent capacity increase. This showcase highlights XRPL's capability to handle bursts of simple payments but doesn't guarantee sustained higher throughput.
XRP Ledger's Batch V1.1 amendment has secured 30 of 35 validator votes, surpassing the 28 votes required to enter the network's activation period. According to CoinDesk, the countdown began September 15 at 14:06:41 UTC and is projected to activate shortly after September 29 if support remains at or above 80% for the full 14-day window. Under XRP Ledger governance rules, an amendment must maintain at least 80% validator support for 14 consecutive days before it can activate. As of Tuesday's snapshot, the amendment has 77% backing from trusted validators, with support above the required threshold for the activation period. Support must remain above that threshold for the full 14 days before the change takes effect, and validators can change their votes during that period.
Developers fixed 11 additional software issues involving signatures, authorization checks and potential server crashes before the latest vote. As reported by RippleX, the latest review included internal adversarial testing, AI-assisted analysis, a Sherlock attack contest and assessments by security firms Halborn and Common Prefix. The review process was significantly expanded compared to the original version, with RippleX head of engineering Ayo Akinyele stating they "used it as an opportunity to go much deeper on the implementation, redesign parts of the signing and authorization model, and significantly expand the security review." The feature allows eight transactions to be grouped into a single operation with execution rules that require linked transactions to succeed together or fail together. According to CoinDesk, Ayo Akinyele noted that "Batch allows multiple transactions to be grouped together so they either all execute or none do," particularly important for delivery-versus-payment use cases where assets and payments need to move atomically.
Batch V1.1 would allow as many as eight transactions to be grouped into a single operation, with execution rules that can require linked transactions to succeed together or fail together. According to RippleX, for a token swap between two users, the feature could make both transfers dependent on each other, with if one side of the exchange fails, the other transaction would not be completed independently. Wallets and marketplaces could use the same structure to process a customer payment and a platform fee together, ensuring both are processed together. The feature is designed around atomic settlement, where multiple related operations can be handled as a coordinated transaction instead of being submitted separately. As reported by CoinDesk, Ayo Akinyele confirmed that "some projects are already being built with Batch in mind, so activation would allow that work to move closer to production," with Ripple planning to share more details once the feature is live, including work with key asset managers. The upgrade shipped in xrpld 3.3.0 and is now up for voting after being replaced in the XRP Ledger's 3.3.0 software release on August 6.
The Batch V1.1 upgrade comes at a crucial time as XRP Ledger enters Q4 with significant on-chain activity gaps. Despite XRP rising over 35% in Q3, marking its first bullish quarter since Q3 2025, on-chain activity has not kept pace with the price recovery. The XRP Ledger recorded $416 million in DEX volume in Q3, still below the previous quarter's $469 million, while transaction count stands at around 162 million, significantly below the 222 million recorded in the previous quarter. This timing gap makes the Batch V1.1 upgrade potentially a significant catalyst for Q4, as it could increase transaction efficiency and support higher network activity during what is traditionally a strong quarter for cryptocurrency adoption.
The market cap of Ripple USD (RLUSD), the network's native stablecoin, surged to a new all-time high of $2.4 billion, as adoption appears to be accelerating. As a result, Ripple USD has now flipped Ondo Finance's USDY for the 10th spot in the stablecoin market, and could soon surpass PayPal USD (PYUSD) and BlackRock's BUILD (BUIDL) if the trend continues. Meanwhile, this week will be key to the crypto market, as the Clarity Act will be subject to procedural voting within the U.S. Senate. If passed, the bill will be sent to the floor for voting, potentially impacting the broader cryptocurrency regulatory landscape. The timing matters as XRP's price action is currently wedged between the network upgrade catalyst and the separate macro event, with markets rarely getting two structural catalysts stacked that close together.
