VerifiedX Foundation launched a $15 million financing round on September 9 with Cantor Fitzgerald serving as investment banking partner. According to reports from crypto.news, the project has secured initial institutional capital with first institutional investors already committed, though their identities and investment terms have not been disclosed. The funding target represents the amount VerifiedX aims to raise rather than a completed raise, with no closing date, minimum subscription amount, or schedule for announcing further participants disclosed.
The $15 million in proceeds will support institutional Bitcoin distribution, custody connections, centralized exchange listings, and lending services. As reported by crypto.news, VerifiedX plans to use part of the capital to expand custody relationships, including an integration with BitGo for vBTC and vBTC.b. The project expects its first centralized exchange listing announcement within weeks, though no exchange has independently confirmed plans to support either asset. Exchange listings remain subject to technical integration, liquidity arrangements, and each platform's internal compliance review.
VerifiedX plans to use the funding to expand custody relationships, including an integration with BitGo for vBTC and vBTC.b. According to the announcement, vBTC is described as a Bitcoin-collateralized token operating on the VerifiedX network, while vBTC.b serves as its counterpart for applications on Coinbase's Base network. The project's documentation describes a custody framework using FROST threshold Schnorr signatures distributed across validators to authorize Bitcoin transactions. A February security assessment by Halborn confirms that the vBTC V2 system uses distributed key generation and threshold signatures for Taproot deposit addresses and withdrawals, with all identified findings addressed by the end of the assessment.
The financing also targets lending programs that would allow customers to borrow against Bitcoin or lend assets for returns. As reported by crypto.news, these facilities would preserve ownership and redemption rights, though VerifiedX has not published lending partners, collateral ratios, interest rates, or liquidation terms. The project claims unnamed "tier-one" centralized exchanges will list vBTC and its native VFX token, with the first listing announcement expected within weeks. Exchange listings remain subject to technical integration, liquidity arrangements, and compliance reviews across various jurisdictions.
VerifiedX is entering a competitive market where several competing models are attracting billions of dollars in institutional capital. Coinbase's cbBTC uses conventional custodial structure with $7.8 billion in circulation as of September 9, while Babylon's institutional Bitcoin staking has $5 billion in TVL. Lombard's LBTC product manages over $800 million of Bitcoin with integrations across more than 50 DeFi protocols. According to Brian May, a member of the VerifiedX Foundation, "Nearly every way to put Bitcoin to work on-chain today asks the holder to swap it for someone else's IOU. It's the reason less than 1% of all Bitcoin held by institutions is earning any yield."
