TRON processed $2.1 trillion in USDT transfers during the second quarter of 2026 as its stablecoin market reached a record $89.2 billion, according to Messari's August 10 report. USDT accounted for $87.9 billion, or 98.5% of stablecoins on the network, putting TRON ahead of Ethereum's $78.7 billion USDT balance at quarter end. Latest data from Token Terminal reveals even stronger momentum, with TRON's stablecoin market cap adding $1 billion over the past week, representing more than tenfold the growth of any other chain during this period. USDT's dominance has declined to 8.445% as capital rotates to major cryptocurrencies, while average daily USDT transfer volume rose 4.3% from the previous quarter to $22.8 billion. However, recent data from CryptoQuant reveals concerning trends, with USDT's 60-day market cap change falling by around $4 billion, indicating a significant decline in available liquidity.
The surge in stablecoin demand is reinforced by significant increases in decentralized exchange activity. Stablecoin volume hit a new daily peak this month after recording $40.37 billion on August 10, with Robinhood Chain peaking on the same day with $366 million in stablecoin DEX volume. ETH-stablecoin represented $193.2 million, more than half the total volume. Of Robinhood's daily stablecoin DEX volume, over 50% was exchanged between major pairs, indicating traders are rotating to major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana. This rotation pattern suggests capital is moving from stablecoins into active trading, supporting the broader market recovery as the total crypto market cap increased from $2.15 trillion to $2.19 trillion, adding more than $40 billion in August alone.
In stark contrast to stablecoin growth, TRON's decentralized finance ecosystem contracted significantly during Q2. Total Value Locked (TVL) in DeFi dropped 1.9% to $4.4 billion, marking the first quarterly decline in recent months. JustLend, the largest protocol, fell 10.5% to $2.9 billion, cutting its share of network TVL from 72.9% to 66.5%. Average daily volume across TRON's decentralized exchanges (DEXs) fell 21.7% to $49.3 million, marking the fourth straight quarterly decline even as the chain's dominance in stablecoin payments expanded. As per analysts, the decline remains consistent with the broader cooldown in on-chain spot trading rather than a TRON-specific structural trend. This divergence between payment infrastructure and trading activity highlights the network's growing role as a settlement rail while traditional DeFi applications face reduced user engagement.
TRON generated $699.4 million in network fees during Q2, up 15.9% in dollar terms, marking the first quarterly fee increase since an August 2025 governance change cut the network's energy unit price. Fees measured in TRX increased 2.1% to 2.10 billion TRX, while average transaction cost increased 5.4% to $0.65. Despite higher fees, the network remained net inflationary with circulating TRX supply rising to approximately 94.85 billion while total staked TRX fell to 45.7 billion and the staking rate slipped to 48.2%. The network processed a record 14.6 million transactions on June 15, with higher activity helping reverse a two-quarter decline in network fees. Network usage remained elevated with TRONSCAN reporting an average of about 12.07 million daily transactions over the latest 30 days, and lifetime transactions crossing 15 billion in early August while circulating USDT remained above $90 billion.
