Sui and Alibaba Cloud have announced a collaboration to introduce a new payment system for AI agents, allowing them to make cloud service purchases without human approval. According to reports from BeInCrypto, Cointelegraph, Phemex News, Coinfomania, and latest updates, the system will operate using stablecoins within predetermined budget limits, with agents paying for each service request as they are used. The partnership was revealed at Sui Basecamp, the network's annual conference in Singapore, though neither company has disclosed a launch date, pricing structure, or which services will be available first. The collaboration was unveiled during the Sui Basecamp event on October 7, 2026, positioning it as a notable step for the network's agent payments system and represents a significant move to enhance user payment experiences and streamline transactions for Sui users.
Under the proposed system, Alibaba Cloud services will integrate with Sui Agent Payments, Sui's dedicated toolkit for AI agent payments. As reported by BeInCrypto, Cointelegraph, Phemex News, Coinfomania, and latest updates, this model differs from traditional card checkouts that require human confirmation for every purchase. Instead, the software will automatically process payments within spending limits established by humans, allowing AI agents to operate at machine speed without manual intervention for each transaction. The arrangement specifically connects Sui's blockchain network with Alibaba Cloud to enable stablecoin-based per-call payments for AI agent services, with payments executed on a per-use basis using stablecoins settled directly on the Sui network. The stated goal of the Sui Alibaba Cloud partnership is to improve the payment experience for Sui users and make transactions run more smoothly across the network. In Sui's model, the agent spends against an on-chain grant, and each paid service call can trigger its own stablecoin transfer on Sui, eliminating the need for invoices or reconciliation teams.
The collaboration builds on findings from BeInCrypto's State of AI Agent Payments 2026 report, which examined 19 products and agentic workflows and found that 14 could operate within limits set by people without requiring approval for every transaction. According to Mysten Labs co-founder and Chief Product Officer Adeniyi Abiodun, the system represents a shift toward economic activity moving from people clicking checkout buttons to agents transacting on their behalf, continuously and at machine speed. The company built this year's event around the concept of the agentic economy. The introduction of stablecoin payments fits a broader shift toward more stable digital assets in payment systems, as reported by Coinfomania. While the broader crypto market exhibits mixed signals, Sui is breaking new ground with this latest partnership, which could potentially attract more users seeking reliable payment solutions. The system represents a genuinely different billing model from how cloud services work today, with the ledger serving as the bill rather than traditional invoicing.
The system presents potential security challenges, as reported by BeInCrypto, including the risk of AI agents getting stuck in loops, sending the same paid requests repeatedly and burning through entire budgets automatically. The report notes that neither Sui nor Alibaba Cloud has explained how users will brief their agents beyond setting a spending cap, and the system lacks rate limits or alerts to prevent such scenarios. The companies have not disclosed whether the system will include safeguards to prevent unauthorized spending. Coinfomania reports that Sui's trading volume currently shows little activity, indicating early stages of adoption for the agent payment system.
The partnership enters a competitive landscape where rival chains are pursuing similar agent payment solutions. According to BeInCrypto, in September, Cardano joined the x402 standard for agent payments in ADA. Additionally, a BlackRock research paper has identified stablecoins as the leading candidate for machine-native money, while Sui's native token SUI has gained approximately 43% over the past month as reported by BeInCrypto price data. The success of this system could pressure other cloud providers to implement similar payment solutions for AI agents. Mysten Labs didn't stop at Alibaba Cloud, as the same week it unveiled Verifiable Agent Arbiter with Google Cloud, a system built to let enterprises check whether an AI agent actually stayed inside the permissions it was given, rather than just trusting that it did. The company's dual announcements position Sui as wanting to be the settlement and accountability layer underneath autonomous AI spending, not just another chain hoping developers show up.
