Second-largest Ethereum DAT Sharplink has invested $100 million of its existing Ethereum holdings in a new fund managed by Galaxy Digital. According to the latest joint announcement, Galaxy Digital will contribute an additional $25 million of its own funds, bringing the total committed capital to $125 million. This strategic move represents a shift from passive Ethereum ownership to active participation in blockchain-based markets, marking what industry sources describe as a first-of-its-kind institutional investment vehicle designed to deploy capital into onchain yield strategies and identified investments. As reported by Investing.com, the fund has been launched as Galaxy Sharplink Onchain Yield Fund, LP, with Galaxy Digital managing the institutional investment vehicle. The fund will target selected onchain yield strategies and other identified digital asset opportunities, with Galaxy using research, protocol reviews, and internal controls when choosing deployments.
The fund employs what's called 'on-chain yield' strategy, which goes beyond traditional Ethereum staking by integrating digital assets into different blockchain protocols and financial applications. As reported by AMBCrypto, this approach includes lending, liquidity provision, staking or restaking, and other decentralized finance (DeFi) activities. Galaxy Digital will oversee the fund, evaluate DeFi opportunities, perform due diligence, and manage risks including market volatility, liquidity problems, and smart contract failures. The firm's investment process is built on years of institutional experience deploying capital across digital asset markets since 2020, with proprietary research, rigorous protocol diligence and comprehensive risk controls. Galaxy stated that this initiative expands its asset management platform to include institutional-grade onchain strategies.
According to AMBCrypto reports, Sharplink's Ethereum holdings were valued at $1.66 billion, representing 868,699 ETH. The company has earned 24,338 ETH in total staking rewards to date. Sharplink's stock price was trading at $6.43 following a 2.23% increase in the previous trading day, while Ethereum's price stood at $1,916.03 with a slight 0.24% increase. The launch adds to a growing set of institutional digital asset investing strategies and demonstrates a new model for corporate treasuries actively deploying capital to pursue additional risk-managed returns via onchain yield strategies. The fund structure gives Sharplink another method for generating returns from its Ethereum holdings beyond its existing staking program.
Mike Novogratz, Founder and CEO of Galaxy Digital, commented that the fund marks a new phase of institutional adoption with capital moving from passive ownership to active participation in blockchain-based markets. As reported by Investing.com, Novogratz stated that the fund reflects that shift by pairing Sharplink's substantial ETH treasury with Galaxy's institutional investment platform to access opportunities across the onchain economy through a disciplined investment approach. Joseph Chalom, CEO of Sharplink, stated that the fund represents an expansion of the company's ETH treasury management strategy beyond accumulation and staking of assets, describing it as "a disciplined, institutional-grade allocation designed to make our ETH even more productive." Matthew Sheffield, CIO of Sharplink, highlighted how the fund aims to address a gap in early-stage crypto protocol funding, where venture capital is typically used to acquire tokens or equity rather than to support activity within protocols directly. Steve Kurz, Global Co-Head of Digital Assets at Galaxy, noted that the launch deepens their partnership with Sharplink, which they view as an institutional leader in the onchain economy.
Joseph Chalom, CEO of Sharplink, emphasized that the fund marks a disciplined, institutional-grade allocation designed to make ETH more productive, with potential upside for shareholders. Matthew Sheffield, CIO of Sharplink, highlighted how emerging crypto protocols often face cold-start problems while billions wait to be deployed by venture funds, but most venture capital doesn't fund protocol activity directly. The fund aims to fill this gap for innovative projects building in the ecosystem, potentially generating risk-managed returns for investors. This represents a significant shift in corporate treasury management, moving beyond traditional accumulation strategies to active deployment of ETH treasury assets, as noted by ChainCatcher. The move also strengthens SBET's connection to institutional Ethereum adoption and active treasury management across digital asset markets.
