Pudgy Penguins [PENGU] has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of PENGU plushies on all Target shelves across the United States. According to reports from AMBCrypto, this represents the NFT project's biggest push yet into retail markets, following its successful TCG drop in June. The company noted that this milestone has introduced Pengu to millions of new people in retail, significantly expanding its user base beyond the internet-only presence. With this move, Pudgy Penguins extends its reach to millions more users, marking a major step towards fulfilling its goal to expand beyond the internet. An expanded user base is good news for the network and the native token, PENGU, as it increases use cases for the token, with more traders discovering the token via QR codes on plushies, potentially driving demand for PENGU.
The PENGU price experienced slight upward movement following the retail announcement, hiking to $0.0062 before pulling back to $0.0061 at press time. As reported by CoinGlass data, exchange outflows significantly outpaced inflows over the past day, resulting in a negative Spot Netflow of $139,000. This indicates that more PENGU tokens flowed out of exchanges, which historically has preceded better price performance. These slight gains were mostly driven by spot buyers who rushed to accumulate on the good news. However, buyers rushed into spot markets while traders on derivatives aggressively cashed out gains, creating a mixed market response to the retail expansion.
Despite spot buying activity, derivatives markets showed strong bearish sentiment. According to CoinGlass data, Perps Sell Volume rose to 984.2 million compared to 874.9 million in Buy Volume, resulting in a negative delta of -109.3 million. On the futures side, Futures Outflow increased to $23.4 million while Inflow fell to $22.4 million, causing Futures Netflow to drop 228% to -$975,000. This aggressive selling on derivatives markets suggests increased bearishness among traders, with negative Futures Netflow indicating that more traders closed their positions. A negative Futures Netflow reflects increased bearishness as traders closed positions, exacerbating the downward pressure on PENGU.
Despite the retail expansion, technical indicators suggest the market structure remains bearish. At press time, the Relative Strength Index remains within the bearish zone at 45, indicating sellers continue to control the market. The Stochastic Momentum Index also confirms this view, remaining negative with an upward trajectory but deeply within the bearish zone. Combined, these two indicators suggest that the momentum leans to the downside and is likely to remain so. If the slight demand driven by the news fades, exacerbated by derivatives pressure, PENGU will drop to $0.0058. However, if the plushies help boost demand with the extended base, PENGU could hold $0.006 and target $0.0068. The technical analysis indicates that while the retail expansion is positive for long-term growth, immediate market pressure from derivatives trading continues to weigh on the token's performance.
